Love the whole series.
So glad I found this author. Great mix of people you are interested in plus technology. I like that there's no sex, and the foul language is kept to a minimum - only when it seems appropriate to me. All the books in this series are good, so I will just copy and paste this review. I will have to try his other series.

We are not alone
This novel is a real short but fast paced story. Connor has become more involved at Sanctuary since assuming the role of Mayor. He also developed a program to help the CFS personnel find a way to effectively deal with their PTOS from their service during the Vemus attack. He has arranged for a special exploration camping trip to check out a NEIIS site for Dash who is now in charge of his own department. The site was just located on the NEIIS map but appears to be a site with a non-functIoning consoles, but when Connor arrived at the site he noticed good different was the geography which appeared to have sustained heavy attack which destroyed the buildings. As the group spreads out to check the area they find a hidden bunker underneath a small hill. The door couldn't be opened but Connor finds a way in through the roof and enters bringing Noah and two others with him, leaving the rest to guard the outside. What they find is an old bunker with a room full of stasis is but only one is undamaged. While trying to access the console, they activated the one pod to power open by because of the damage to the bunker the cover doesn't open properly and they have to help the NEIIS individual get out of the pod. After he gets his bearings, he sees all the damaged pods and starts reacting by screaming and then running through the bunker. Connor and Noah follow the NEIIS but send the other two to inform the rest of the group. Rhyars climbed into the bunker after the console activity alerted but the NEIIS has a vocal ability to cause them to withdraw. He leads Connor and Noah out of the bunker via an escape tunnel that he accessed the door to enter. They established a small method of communication with him and he gestures for them to follow to anotherlocation. To access this new site, they have to climb a mountain where they find vehicles and working console, which they access to find another site over in an area near a big body of water that has a more tropical weather zone. The NEIIS wants to go there immediately but Connor trys to stall is he can get back-up help but the NEIIS knocks him out and kidnaps him and flies out using one of gliders. After sending coordInates to Sierra, the group follows with the rovers. Connor has been taken to what appears to be a military base, where the NEIIS leaves him outside of a building to cross over to another by bypassing the animals guarding the section. Once inside Connor has to battle with the NEIIS for his PDA, which gets damaged from the struggle, but because of all the console Connor can send a signal if he can get away. When he does, he also explored the building and found a room filled with thousands of stasis pods and the NEIIS activating a bunch of them. When the group reaches his location and is able to communicate with him, a plan is devIsed to both rescue Connor and destroy the power score to stop full activation of all those pods, based on the hyper- aggressive behavior against others by the NEIIS. When they return home to Sierra, Connor is treated for hIs injuries and when he has healed enough is called to a "informal" meeting to discuss the events that occurred with the NEIIS and the group actions. He was told that a committee was being formed to discuss protocol for future situations and he was politely told to go back to Sanctuary since he was the Mayor there. But he has decided to develop his own protocol setup too.

Easy read and entertaining
I've enjoyed this series so far. This book was also good but it was a little different: less combat, more exposition (which is not necessarily a bad thing). Also, this book occurs in essentially one chunk of time with only two points of view, as opposed to some of the previous books which had 3 or sometimes 4 different segments occurring simultaneously and different jumps in time.It is a "first encounter" scenario, which are usually really intriguing and captivating. I feel like this first encounter was interesting -- a little surprising at the least -- and ultimately was sort of necessitated by the plot line. If the first encounter was about two species getting to know each other in a typical Star Trek-type scenario, then the plot would have been totally different. It's been an interesting twist and while I don't think this book was as good as the others, the story is intriguing and there are still quite a few unanswered questions in my head that I look forward to the author answering/explaining in the next book (which I just started). It reads quickly and reads well. Sometimes there's a little too much cheesy cliches about relationships/emotions/etc but they're really the undercurrent of the book not what you read it for.

Discovery (First Colony Book 6)
The First Colony series encompasses a wide variety of intriguing sci-fi elements and concepts and meshes them together in quite unique ways. Truly riveting!

Can't We All Just Get Along?
It doesn't appear that we can get along! Pilgrims came to America to escape persecution, they set up their own legal system, different colonies are formed but they can't get along with England, then we fight amongst ourselves in a Civil War Between the States. Now we have internal political strife, not to mention pressure from other countries. Imagine what we could accomplish if we all could get along instead of trying to take from somebody else or force them to do things our way. So, in Discovery, colonists travel to a new country only to find the first thing they meet is to fight an invading enemy, then they forget about the fighting thinking they are all done, only to find the indigenous species don't like them there. So, they fight. Then we find that the colonists themselves are fighting for power and not getting along. Can't we all just get along? Nope!

First colony's first contact
What would you do if you had to evac to an earth-like planet you thought had no sentient beings and then found out there were some; and several pretty smart preditors? You'd take field trips to sites you thought would tell you what happened to the previous inhabitants. So thats what connor and noah are doing. Then you have first contact and instead of learning much more about the NEIIS you get played and realize youre aiding a militarist in his quest. Ha! There's a good mystery being solved here. And connor and his team have some harrowing adventures while solving it. Its all very interesting and makes a great story. Ken keeps introducing new characters which keeps the story from becoming stale and the main chracters keep getting even more interesting. I can't tell you much more in detail without spoiling the plot. So read it for the adventure and enjoy.

had trouble putting it down
I've thoroughly enjoyed exploring New Earth with Connor and the gang. I didn't love some of the battle scenes in the previous boss but have loved this one.Exploring the new planet and uncovering mysteries kept me turning pages and losing sleep

One story that isn't going stale
This is turning into a credible story line with new characters being slowly introduced so as not to confuse the reader. Am looking forward to book 6, and hope Connor and co can keep New Earth safe

Great story
This is a continuation of the New Earth series & it's just as good as the first one. This time Connor & a small team are out checking on forward posts & are asked by Dash to check out some co-ordinates. What they find there are a complete surprise.

Intriguing
Having now read the 5 books so far, I'm now intrigued where the story will go. From a space battle to survival on new earth. And of course theres going to be a power struggle by politicians. Excellent characters with numerous avenues for the plot to follow. Can see this running for some time. Really looking forward to book 6.

Unprepared!
Surprises abound in this episode to the extent that the storyline seems determined to draw out the chase ad infinitum. This has the effect of stalling the Saga for a while before it gets back on track. I'll give the next volume a go.Harast
