Devil's Cry: Shade of Devil, Book 2

Wildly imaginative straight male fantasy.
Just finished the whole series. Great reads! One of the striking talents of Silvers is his ability to take a trope and re-imagine it, such as In this case, "fated mate" (or bound mate), which is seriously overworked in so much fantasy work. I was getting pretty tired of the trope in this series until he twisted it in a splendid and marvelous way.The only thing that taints the story is the feeling of "ick" I get from the author when his super-cis male characters get close to or interact with other male bodies (but they seem to enjoy female-on-female).Gods, including Odin (not in this story), and other creatures in so many other stories don't have the "ick" Mr. Silvers' version of the same characters have. Knowing this makes the "ick" stand out rather pointedly. Almost like he needs to make a point.

When you realize you can't make the term "Devil's Triangle" fit your narrative...
AKA How many examples of Freudian logic can we cram into a single given novel. The second outing of Sorin Ambrogio is not quite as over the top with its bombastic pacing as the first, instead aiming for a more scaled ramp-up before it throws pacing out the window entirely and just pinwheels from explosion to explosion without touching the ground whatsoever. After carving his own bloody niche into the flesh of New York City, Sorin's hopes for time to convalesce are stamped out in short order, as his suspicions over the fate of his long lost son and impending confrontation with Dracula are undercut by a resurgence of witchery in the city, a mess he walks right into the middle of without even realizing, and walks out with an equally unintentional but much more permanent mess of his own making with a brassy werewolf woman and an immortal divinely blessed huntress. And it only goes further pear shaped from there.Sorin's dysphoria with his circumstances and the modern world are all but eliminated by this point, more quirks of character rather than shortcomings now. This reads as a conscious sense of shifting priorities on his part, focusing more on the short term issues at hand rather than risk distracting himself with all the various things he doesn't know about the new world around him. His messy personal issues aside, he also manages to make great strides in re-establishing himself as a leader of armies and presses a major victory in his overall goal for vengeance upon Dracula and his own forces of the night. That is not to say it all comes through as blood pumping victories and happy resolutions of course, as instead Sorin comes away with a few more problems on his plate than when he started to set up the transition to the third forthcoming installment.Overall the story reads as a faster, punchier arrangement compared to his debut, focusing less on the grand ambiance of his position as one of the world's first true monsters, and instead narrows down to the straightforward struggles of a man in a position of power and the decisions he has to make moment to moment to achieve his goals and protect those that he sees as his. As usual, I look forward to seeing what comes next.

A Provocative Tale of Two
Devil’s Cry, the second book of Shayne Silvers’ Shadow of Devil series, is another example of brilliant story-telling. Silvers has taken a worn out subject and given it life in a way that only he can do. Devil’s Cry is the continuation about the first vampire’s life and what transpires after a centuries’ long sleep. Sorin is on a mission to take down Dracula, who has taken his home, his lifestyle and his family away from him. The world has changed during his slumber so Sorin, is dealing with cultural differences that often confuses him or is hard to accept. In Devil’s Cry, Silvers introduces a provocative slant on the story. Even though his books are full of sexual innuendos, Silvers has always steered away from explicit scenes. In this book, he takes the reader a little closer to the fire. Shayne Silvers recently made this comment, “Vampires are known for sex. Period.” Silvers, in his usual style, moves away from the predictable romance found in books and movies today. In a vivid way yet still subtle, Silvers has Sorin dealing with sexual emotions that are given depth to feelings, not just physical. All done with Shayne Silvers’ trademark snark and humor.I will admit that one of the things that appealed to me about Shayne Silvers’ books was the absence of explicit scenes. I admire the incredible way he steers a story line and characters without relying on the typical trends in today’s literature. He has proven himself again as the elite storyteller. Silvers creates an authentic story without sacrificing his writing integrity. Or relying on popular opinion that a book has to include explicit scenes to tell a story.Devil’s Cry is not my favorite Shayne Silvers’ book but it’s still an excellent book. It is still worth a read because you cannot find an author that writes a tale the way he does; the depth of dialogue and imagery, characters that are rich with personality, humor and twists, all the traits that have become the hallmark that defines Shayne Silvers.

I'd follow this Devil anywhere!
What a great Continuation of Sorin's story.Gosh! I loved every minute of this book. Shayne has a true talent for making us fall In love with his main characters. Sorin Is no different! He is powerful, charismatic and Sexy with a very human side that makes him extremely endearing for a Vamp. You either want to bed him or be his best mate and frankly, when you see who he hangs out with you will be biting at the bit ... or the neck ...to join the gang! The story continues with Sorin's quest to take Down Dracula, but straight of the bat several new threats make themselves known, the least of them the Witches who complicate matters For Sorin and add some great action scenes to this story. The emotional and sexual build up in this book creates a lovely tension that sits nicely in between the action and all the story driven sequences and I found that I flitted from emotion to emotion. From feeling sad for his losses, Angry that he was wronged, Affection for his love Interests.... and a couple of spicy scenes that made me sit up a little straighter in my seat. All In all I really enjoyed this book. It had a feeling of familiarity as it very much reminds me of a classic vampire tale.... but then it surprises you with some lovely new mysteries.I really can't recommend this book enough! And Can't wait to see were the next book takes me!

The Devil is Back! BEWARE CONTAINS POSSIBLE SPOILERS
Sooo many things to love about this book. I mean. Shayne Silvers has found a way to bring Jekyll and Hyde into it. So, we have Olympian forces, Victoria Helsing, Dracula, Doctor F.Stein and Jekyll and Hyde! Some of the most memorable characters from literary history given new life! (He is the Doctor Frankenstein of story writing). What can I say about Devil's Cry? - I didn't see that coming! Shayne has outdone himself as I found myself immersed in the story to the point I could feel the dirt beneath my fingernails as I read a particular scene in Central Park. As with most vampire stories, things get a little heated. Things get sexy. And there is blood. And magic. I still can't get over how much I am enjoying a Vampire story!Sorin Ambrogio is no ordinary vampire. He is the Devil, and he has enraptured me.

Two Books Down
Have to say as I normally have so many books on the go,I forgotten how much I enjoyed the first book & coming back to this after four other books between starting this - volume two did not disappoint. It’s no nonsense, straight to the point & a good re-written version of the Dracula story … loosely based. Characters are well written but I thought Victoria meeting Hyde was a bit pointless shooting him !?!!All good though apart from that - I’ll start number three soon!

Wow!
Shayne Silver is a master wordsmith!!This fresh new take on the classic Dracula story is fast becoming my favourite vampire story ever. Sorin is one of the best characters in any book ive ever read. The story picks up where book 1 Devil's Dream left off, and as usual the rollercoaster of emotions starts from page 1! After waking from a 500 year slumber, Sorin Ambrogio is about to reclaim his legend from Dracula and make sure nobody will forget the first vampire ever again! I personally hope this series goes well past the 3 book mark.Very well done yet again.
