100 Cats Who Changed Civilization by Stall, Sam [Quirk,2007] (Hardcover)

This collection of short essays about memorable cats is a quick read but an engaging one. I got the hardback edition, and it has a great illustration for each of the hundred cats. Other reviewers have mentioned feeling bad because not all of the endings are happy ones. But that is the life of cats. This book is history, not fantasy, and history is often cruel. Nevertheless, these collected tales express the indomitable spirits and quirky natures of our feline friends, and they will undoubtedly teach you something you didn't know. If you didn't already love cats, this book might change your mind.

This book unites two of my favorite things, history and cats. Some of the stories in this book are laugh-out-loud funny. Others simply relate the various exploits of different cats throughout history. I recommend this book to any cat lover!

Cute, informative, and humorous all rolled up into a small well written book to please a cat lover like me. I love history stories and this one gives you a "cat's eyed" view. I found myself reading portions of it to my family, and even they enjoyed it and the clever information Sam Stall entertains you with.

I really enjoyed this book, it made me laugh and smile the entire time! My only regret is that I didn't discover it in the summer so I could read it on the beach! I also read many of the short stories to my Kitty, Dory, she seemed to really enjoy the rags to riches stories of former stray or shelter cats. I think this is because I adopted her from a shelter roughly three years ago...now she is almost as spoiled as some of the cats in the book!

I already owned a copy of this book and ordered this one for a friend. It is a delightful little book. It doesn't have a lot of "sappy" stories, and they are all true. IMO even someone who isn't a "cat person" would enjoy this. In fact, the friend I ordered it for is more of a dog person.

This is a perfect little book to put into the pocket of a book pillow. It was in very good condition.

Interesting little trivia book dedicated to cats. Its entries are brief and informative, and have a touch of humor. I think any cat person would enjoy reading this. Though I found some entries lacking information that I wanted to know, it's understandable seeing as the topic is relatively obscure.

If you are that person at the dinner table when people are talking above your head about history or science, this book may just be the way to make yourself interesting, smile and leave the boff's hanging. My 10yr old, who knew Tesla's name only through tv sci fi, but not who he was, now knows a fact his teachers probably dont. I needed the book for literary research but its so well written and the information is clear and short, kids and adults alike will love it and any reader is likely to become a more interested, and therefore, interesting person

I bought this as a birthday gift for a friend who loves cats. She is delighted to have the book, so I am pleased with my purchase.
