Favourite Children's (and adults) Book
Michael Rosen was the author in residence at the Western Australian College of Advanced Education (now Edith Cowan University) in 1987. This book was on our reading list and I fell in love with it after hearing Michael reading from it during his tutorials. My copy is now 26 years old, yellowed with age and usage, and falling apart. It has been a favourite of the children in every class I have taught from Pre- Primary to Year 7 and an extremely valuable resource in teaching poetry writing. All the kids have loved Eddie's exploits with birthday cards and candles, gerbils, wallpaper, etc. and laughed in delight at the description of stepping on Legos, getting caught out with a chocolate icing smeared mouth, putting dirty sticks in one's brother's bed, doing bombies on the couch etc. - or wiped away a sad tear when reading about the Jewish grandparents. Such a wealth of experience and variety in one book. It is my favourite teaching resource and priceless.

Memories of a teaching standby
I used this book for years until it fell apart and was so glad to find it on Kindle. children of all ages love the poems all of which have that aspect of naughtiness that they can relate to.Do look up the author telling his own poems on You Tube too for some great laughs.

Stunning Work And Clever Poetry For Young And Old Alike!
This book is one of the best collections of children's poetry I have ever read. I have a very old hard back copy which is a first edition that I had forgot about but found it the other day in a trunk at my Nans house and over the years I have read it so much it is now only worth sentimental value. This book is cleverly written which touches upon familiar childhood antics that people may have experienced themselves when they were young. As you read through the book it makes you say, "That's exactly how I used to think about things" and it really makes you feel as if Micael Rosen has written it about you personally. The things the kids in the story get up too, now make me realise they had an influence over the things myself and my sisters got into trouble over because we made our front room into a gymnasium as the kids in the story did and got into trouble over. This really is first class reading, simply written but enough comic tone and clever wit to stun amuse and take hold of young and old alike! Five star rating for a five star book!!!

the best children's poetry book ever written
I cannot believe that no one has reviewed this book before, and am stunned and saddened that it is now out of print! It's fantastic - I discovered it at the age of eight, and it is a book I regularly read aloud and have bought for children I know. The poems are funny, witty, and touch on subjects familiar to most children (stealing chocolate cake from the pantry in the middle of the night for example, or being caught jumping on the furniture!). This book can be either a family read or a private one - it's hilarious both ways. Whatever age you are, DO read it - I can't recommend it highly enough.

Got to be the best
This has to be the best poetry book ever written for kids. Micael Rosen tells funny tails about his baby and other things. Some poems are deep and delve into the world of the poorer English society, whereas others are just plain silly and make you laugh unstoppably.

Makes reading to children a social experience
A classic book. Tales of childhood in verse, enjoyed by generations of readers and listeners. My grandchildren are loving hearing it for the first time as much as their mother did at their age and almost as much as I am reading it out loud once again! So much fun and so many conversations. Times may change but childhood always faces the same situations.

Please go for another version of that wonderful book
1 star only. Nothing to do with the seller. Item as described. But this edition is clearly less reading friendly for your kids (6-8y olds) than the one we borrowed from the library that was was from Puffin Poetry (and not Puffin Books) with a yellow background.I do not recommend this version as the font is really dense, hence hard to read aloud (as poetry ought to be)I do recommend the book however for fun family time!

Terrific!
First bought this book when Michael Rosen came to work with my class many years ago. It's signed and precious to my now grown up children. As a collection of poems which children can easily relate to, as its all about them, it has no equal. Michael Rosen is master of observing children's behaviour and writing about it. I've lost count of the number of children I've read it to over the years and each time the same reaction, they are helpless laughing. Ten stars if possible!

Best kids poetry book ever!
I just love this book. As a primary teacher of many years, I used my first edition with many many classes of children and it never failed to please. It showed children how to get into writing and enjoy poetry. Im now retired and have gone back to school as a governor. I recently asked to go and spend time in a class room - I had no doubt what to take in with me and as my first trusty copy had fallen apart - ordered a new one. I was delighted to see that todays children enjoy the poems just as those I used to read to years ago!!!Try reading Chocolate Cake or Eddie and the Nappy to the children without laughing..... BRILL
