Q: Can you use this mat on vinyl floors and put an elliptical machine on?

Dear Luwanna, Thanks for your question. Our exercise mats are good to be used on concrete, hardwood floors, and carpets. However, as a measure of precaution, we do not recommend using these mats on vinyl floors as vinyl material is quite slippery. If the use of the mat is merely for support of your elliptical machine, note that if the equipment is heavy and also has sharp edges, it may leave an imprint on your mat. Q: can I place this on top of carpet?

Yes. What are you planning after that? It may slide around depending on thickness of carpet It is a thin dense mat. Your carpet may be good enough

Q: Will this mat stain my carpet?

I loved the mat but returned it for that reason. The company could not guarantee that it would not stain my light carpet. Originally I was planning to use it on tile which is why I purchased it.

Q: Is the top layer sturdy? My current one is a mess of little dots all over the floor when I'm done working out, like the top layer is coming off.

I have been very happy with mine and no problems!
