First Do No Harm

A thought-provoking, good read.
Having enjoyed Peter Sykes' two previous books, I was looking forward to reading this next chapter in the life of characters Paul and Kate. 'First Do No Harm' does not disappoint. Sykes sympathetically combines tales of 1970's NHS patient care with the turbulent political landscape of the time. The reader is promoted to consider complex and still relevant issues including resource allocation, private vs. public healthcare, working conditions and ethical treatment dilemmas.A good read, highly recommend.

Timely novel reflecting the consequences of possible strike action on the National Health Service in the UK
Engaging story set during the NHS strike in 1975 when doctors were all too aware of their obligation to put the interest of their patients first, and at the same time, they were faced with impending strike action. The dialogue is both realistic and believable.I've read the author's other two books as well entitled THE FIRST CUT and BEHIND THE SCREENS AT THE CITY GENERAL HOSPITAL, and really enjoyed them.If you want to know what it's like being a doctor/nurse in the NHS, read this book.Recommended reading!
