Contrary to what some other reviews have said, this wand is made out of genuine wood and hand carved. But the beauty of the wood is greatly obscured by the decision to cover it in a thick layer of entirely too much latex paint, which obscures the wood grain and the carvings and makes it feel plasticky. Half an hour with some steel wool took off the thickest of that layer of paint so that some of the wood grain started to show through while leaving most of the color, which greatly improved its appearance. Ideally, though, the manufacturer would have been stained and perhaps finished with a satin polyurethane finish instead of the wholly inappropriate latex paint. If they fixed that one issue, this would be a 5-star product.

This was awesome. My daughter's favorite character in Harry Potter is Sirius Black and she says this looks exactly like his wand. It is identical to the name-brand wand at a fraction of the price. Great job making this thing!
