Accurate depiction of the 1970's
Great read. Took me back to that time (I'm seventy now).Good story telling with loads of references to the music, fashion and the social lives and conditions of the era.

Poignant and quite satisfying!
Our 'hero'is an ordinary man approaching a mid- life crisis. He is self obsessed, has a flashy car, suffers with obsessive compulsive disorder and his girlfriend is now his ex. Driving to work one day he is involved in a serious road accident and is pronounced dead at the scene. Then strange things begin to happen. He awakes and finds himself occupying another man's body and he has been transported back to 1976. A period before he was born. Given another chance at life, can be redeem himself and right all the wrongs that have befallen him? As the saying goes "the road to Hell is paved with good intentions". A very enjoyable tale!

Undemanding blokish fun with caveats
This is a fun, lightweight read designed to appeal primarily to older, English, male readers who either remember the 70s or wish they did. I'm not surprised to find this is self published as it could do with a good edit to improve the quality of the prose. The female characters are lightly sketched Carry On style stereotypes rather than fully fledged characters, with Jenny being the least well developed despite her prominence in the story. The male characters, especially the older ones, are far more developed. I did quite enjoy the nostalgia elements and am curious to know what happens next but probably not enough to spend more than 99p to find out.

Excellent
Really enjoyed this. As a fan of Jason Ayres' Time Bubble series, I thought I would give this a try. The main character is likeable and the story flows easily. A great bit of storytelling. My only minor gripe was the author's excessive use of the word "whilst", instead of "while". Loved the book though and will definitely continue the series . Highly recommended.

What a joy
I bought this book August 23 but only started reading it May24. It is brilliant, so much I ordered the second one well before the end. So looking forward to reading that one too. Well done Adrian Cousins

Real world time travel!
I thought I'd invest in some reading matter whilst walking the cat (don't ask!) and having an interest in anything time travel, thought I'd give this a go. Having reached my 50s, I do prefer things to be a little more grounded and 'Second Chance' was exactly that. It's gripping, funny – I did chuckle out loud – and nostalgic. Jason, the main character, is very relatable. I experienced feelings of unease and anxiety when he was dealing his various issues. If one were to really time travel, under the conditions set out in the book, Jason's approach would be very similar to mine. Be practical, responsible and try and make a difference without being selfish.Remembering the various 70s references added to my enjoyment of the book, but it isn't a requirement. I recall reading books set in earlier periods having not experienced them personally, yet still greatly enjoyed them.Give 'Second Chance' a go, maybe you'll find a little of yourself in Jason Apsley.

An enjoyable and fun read!
I don't usually review a novel unless I really like it. I couldn't put this one down. I like the plot, the characters and the writing. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.

What an epic debut novel!
I predict great success for Adrian Cousins. I started reading but then got frustrated with the whole irrationality of OCD that I stopped reading it. I came back to it a few months later and by golly am I glad I did.I have had some warped sleeping patterns while reading this book because it was so hard to put down for essential things like eating, sleeping and bodily functions.I did sleep eventually when my eyes couldn't take the sand paper effect any longer. I won't start the second novel today as I really need to sleep. But tomorrow after a good rest I'll be diving into the next part of the adventure in 'Ahead of His Time'.I am so amazed to have discovered this author and very thankful to Amazon for suggesting that I might like this book.

Lesson's in British Slang
The language of this book apparently does not meet Amazon standards as the original review here was rejected by Amazon as being inappropriate. So reading this book will instruct you in the proper way to be crude and to swear offensively in the language of the Brits. In the book we find out quickly that John dies. His death results in the unusual circumstance that he finds himself alive in his own body thirty years earlier, even before he was born. He has the same name and features, but he is a product of a different mother Apsley and father Apsley. He thinks it is a wonderful opportunity to make changes in history, but finds that no matter his efforts, things stay the same or even get worse except for small things closely intertwined in his own life. He finds a new girl that he finds gorgeous, and marries her. He meets up with a person he knows to be a serial rapist, and attempts to change things which he is partially successful in accomplishing although maybe not all to the good. The book is so full of various bits of British slang that it is almost unreadable. Fortunately the kindle dictionary is able to translate many (not all) of them. In my original post, I mention three words not known in American English, as a clue to how foreign these words frequently used in the book seem to the American reader. It is the only language I used that I could possibly conceive would have offended Amazon. One was a three letter word for a dislikable person, the other was a four letter word for a blank expression, and the third was probably the killer, it was a six letter word frequently used to describe a low-life individual. Whatever. You can get a real lesson on how to be rude in the British language from this book, so you could refer to it as your textbook on English culture. The story itself is okay and reasonably entertaining. The more amazing part is the character's memory of dates and times of his own personal history. Do you remember what the date, time and circumstance of Elvis Presley's death was? I don't even though I was in college at the time when a member of the coroner's team was pulled out of class to investigate the circumstances of the death.

Good plot, clumsy writing
Despite the intriguing premise and interesting plot development, the actual writing let the book down. Pedestrian and casual, with clumsy dialogue and no character development. I was curious enough to keep going but the writing ultimately made it very hard to care.
