SO HARD TO TIGHTEN STRAPS
I got this car seat because it was compatible with a stroller I was gifted.. it was great until I realized how difficult it is to tighten the straps once baby is in. It’s so hard that I have to take the car seat off the base to be able to tighten it properly .. every single time :( should have just got a convertible car seat from the beginning

Highest quality seat, however not ergonomic for infants & potential scratch hazard
The biggest problem I have is that the seat seems to compress the spine of the infant due to the shoulder harness coming out from the seat back at a very low profile. if the straps came out closer or above the shoulder then the infant will be secured against the seat back much more ergonomically.. Instead the should strap in its highest position slot still halfway down the infants back, thus when you go to cinch the harness, the straps pull down on the shoulder of the infant, compressing his or her spine and causing her to slouch in her seat. It seems very uncomfortable to me, and definitely not a good position to sit in for any length of time. The problem becomes worse as the child grows, the problem continues to worsen as the shoulder harness pulls further downward on the spine rather than against the seat back.Lastly, my baby got scratched by the velco shoulder pads. The exposed velcro on the edges scratched BOTH of her arms in the same spot when they slid down from the sides of her cheeks.Because of this poor design, I cannot recommend this seat..

Provides for a secure and safe baby
This is an excellent car set. The seat is super easy to install. It clicks in securely and there is no wrestling with the seat belt through three or four loops holes. There is plenty of soft cushioning around a baby's head and body. The baby feels really secure strapped into it, not just the seat itself, but the baby looks secure inside the seat. This is also lightweight.

Solid, safe and somewhat expensive...
Maxi-Cosi is an established maker of car seats and baby buggies from the Netherlands. They sell in the USA through brick and mortar outlets including Nordstrom and Target, and online via Amazon and their own web site. This is an expensive, handsome car seat. You can see product details fairly well in the Amazon page description so I won't bother rehearsing them here. Let me just note that the child seat in the stroller can face forward or backward and that there are four recline levels. This is a lightweight seat, though the box it arrives in is fairly heavy and bulky. Light weight in a car seat could be a sign of cheap build. The plastic in this car seat is thin and rigid--and therefore very light--but the seat as a whole seems solid and durable. Certainly, the upholstery is quality and the plastic underbody is reinforced by solid steel pieces at critical points such as the connections between the seat and the underlying base. Matte black plastic also keeps dirt from being as visible. There's a nice rubbery/leatherish feel to the carrying handle. The car seat works with a car's LATCH system for use in the forward position. The seat can also be used without the base, though the portals for the seat belt to pass through are kind of hidden amidst the upholstery. A sticker on the side of the seat shows the location for the seat belt. Two extra safety measures are found in this car seat. First, there's a support leg at the front of the seat which, upon installation, descends to the car's floor. The purpose of this leg is to transfer kinetic energy to the floor from a collision where your car is rear ended to guard against whiplash. Second, there are impact zones in the side of the seat to absorb energy if your car is T-boned by another car.The Mico XP Max works with a variety of Maxi-Cosi strollers, many of which can be found here on Amazon. This is an expensive car seat. Whether the extra safety features are worth the increased price is a decision you will need to make.

Mixed feelings. Good and bad features
This car seat is very fluffy. My dad thought it was “plush” until we realized it’s air pockets but it’s the puffiest car seat I’ve ever seen. I Like the infant insert a lot. There’s a lot of car seats out there that don’t fit a newborn properly but if you read their manual, it turns out adding an infant liner voids the safety guarantee/warranty. The buckle is enough to prevent a smart kid from undoing it but easy enough for an adult that it’s not a hassle. The stability leg is a cool feature that makes me feel good about the safety of the seat. I saw some reviews that said it’s hard to snap into the base but I had no issues with that. It slipped right in just by swinging it into the base and not even really trying. The black fabric is simple, streamlined and attractive. My biggest problems are with the handle and the canopy. My dad, brother and I all messed around with it for a bit and my brother discovered that there’s a bump on the handle that purposely catches the canopy and pulls it when you pull the handle up. If you try to hold down the canopy while pulling up the handle, you will make your life so much harder with this seat. Just let the handle pull the canopy up and then push it back afterwards if you want it down. You will still have to battle the handle either way. The ultra puffy seat creates a lump at the top of the seat that you have to BATTLE the handle past. I’m not even kidding. All three of us tried, together and independently, different ways to work with this thing and the handle catches on the top of the seat every time and takes a significant amount of effort to lower and raise. Even just trying it out was frustrating. Ultimately, this seems like a very safe seat. Unfortunately that’s compromised by the fact that the handle and canopy are just a fight to use. And of course you MUST use the handle of a carrier (duh). I probably wouldn’t get this seat again. Please hit the button if this info was helpful.
