The best camera for image quality period
I preordered this camera more than 3 years ago.Panny boy kept updating this monster with new firmwares, so this is essentially a great buy in 2022 as well. It can record now a 5.9K Prores RAW footage on Atmos and 5.9K BRAW on blackmagic recorder externally and up to 6K MOV 10bit 4:2:0 internally. At this price point 2000£ it's 30% cheaper than S1H, and less than one third of the price of Sony 8K flagship A1 and Nikon 8K flagship Z9. Both are better in AF tracking with phase detect AF and higher resolution at 8k, but if you are like me, who don't need 8k, S1's image quality is better in most of the scenarios, with dual native iso's, best in class Dynamic range and video stabilization.Advantages:+ Tons of codecs and video formats+ VLog for higher dynamic range footage+ Dual native ISO supported for cleaner signal at ISO 4000+ Up to 6.5 stop 5-axis Dual IS that works like magic+ 60FPS 4K shooting for 2x slow-mo, in APSC mode+ Best in class 0.78x magnification Viewfinder 5.76 M-dots and 120Hz refresh+ Solid body, nothing comes close to the handling+ Full size HDMI port for external recording and supports BRAW and ProResRAW via external recorders+ 96MP High-res mode that generates both Jpeg and RAW images+ Tons of video assist tools including, Waveform monitor, flicker decrease, etcDisadvantages:- Heavier (1.23Kg) and bigger body than most DSLRs. however, I really like its handling and overall size and heft is less than a gimbal with a smaller camera. With outstanding IBIS I normally dont need to use a gimbal with it. If you prefer gimbal than Lumix S5 is probably a better deal.- Contrast based AI enhanced AF (DFD) is great in general use, but not in videos.Workaround for continuous AF in videos:Shoot in APSC mode in 60fps and set the far-shift or near-shift mode.Otherwise do manual focus or setup pull focus points. Also if you are behind the camera and not Vlogging etc then it's not an issue, just tab on the LCD screen wherever you like to focus (single-AF) and maintain the distance and DOF with narrower aperture.
