RY18HT55A-0 18V ONE+ Cordless 55cm Hedge Trimmer (Bare Tool)

I purchased this May 2025 and thought I'd finally leave a review. It's lightweight and convenient plus well made also I have had no issues with the way it performs, what I do like is the "sweep" attachment as it removes any of the cut hedge off the top instead of having to try and pick them off, and I don't have the worry of going through a cable I can cut my entire hedge with a single charged 4.0ah battery.

Nice bit of kit. Bought it to tackle a decades old ivy that was covering my wall. Cut through 2-3cm branches easily. It is well balanced and the battery seemed to last a decent amount of time, maybe an hour of continuous use. I have three Ryobi 4mah batteries so plenty of back up there. Overall, I’m happy with the purchase.

Great machine, cuts reasonably thick branches, however it's not built for heavy stuff. Gets through approximately 10mm branches with ease. Batteries last well. Well worth the money.

This tool works well for trimming leafy hedges and shrubs, including privet and laurel, but even some woodier plants like hawthorn and holly. It cuts cleanly through most things that fit into the blades and on the couple of occasions it hit an obstruction it couldn't cut, it stopped very quickly so didn't get jammed. The weight and length means it is easy to control and manoeuvre. The swappable battery system adds to the versatility but even with only a 2.0Ah battery installed it lasts through a couple of hours of start-stop use in the garden. I also have a bigger Ryobi pole hedge trimmer, but this simple non-pole trimmer is much more wieldy, lasts longer on the same batteries, and can do most of the same work in combination with a ladder, so it ends up getting more use.

Well designed and manufactured, powerful and with an ingenious variation in cutter size towards the end of the blades increasing cutting ability.

I have a large garden with mature mixed hedgerows and various other bushes that need constant attention. After my wired hedge trimmer packed up after many years faithfull service I decided to give this one a go. It's pretty much ready to go straight out of the box, a quick oil of the blade, click the battery in and of you go. At first, I was a little concerned, when I fired it up it sounded "slower" than the wired version, but I needn't of worried, it cut through everything I threw at it. In use, it's heavy enough to feel sturdy, but not so heavy that it's tiring, a word of caution though, the two stage trigger is quite sensitive causing it to trigger unexpectedly, it's not a major problem, just something to be aware of. I like the idea of not having to worry about cutting through the power cable anymore. I have two 5amp 18v batteries, that I hot swap, even so, battery life is good, I can get approximately 45 minutes of constant cutting before it needs swapping. Out side of a commercial quality trimmer, this is probably as best as it gets, a very impressive hedge trimmer that will meet the needs of even the most demanding of gardens.

An excellent alance of power and usability are happily combined in this Ryobi hedge trimmer.My hedges total approximately 30-40 metres, multiply this by three for outside top and inside of the hedging and yhis trimmer manages all on a 2ah battery. The sweeper attachment does ots job on the top of the hede stopping the cuttings cluttering up the appearance. For the vertical faces it is best removed as it does not hold any cuttings at this angle. This is a good quality, very well made, gardening tool and easily beats my previous Flymo hedger (I cut the cable on this many times). I would have no trouble with reccomending this trimmer to anyone interested in acquiring such a tool. It does help if yu are part of the Ryobi hemisere of course.
