Replaced my outset faucet
My outdoor lawn faucet started to leak, and I couldn't get it apart to fix or change it. So, I just attached this baby to the faucet, and voila, I now have a functional and water tight outside faucet. This saved a lot of work.

I found this design to be the best of the brass shut offs
I order 2 of these because I lost both of my other ones to somewhere in my garden realm. I found this design to be the best of the brass shut offs, so I don't hate the product just this order. Alas neither of them shut correctly. Their was a small stream of water coming out in closed position. Unfortunately by the time I used them Amazon said it was to late to return them. I recommend you check to see if they work before the return time runs out.

Buy anything else
Ordered a couple of these, they ended up in the trash. The mechanisms are ridiculously tight to turn, and like others have mentioned I couldn't close them fully the first time without using pliers. On one of them the female treads wouldn't tighten square with the male hose threads because of either a casting flaw in the main body or maybe a flaw in the cap itself - anyway, I couldn't make that connection not leak. The final straw is that the valves themselves are just too small and you lose too much pressure and flow because of it. I guess they're inexpensive for a reason, I ended up replacing them with Dramm's Heavy-Duty Plastic Shut Off Valves, Those valves are smooth and leak free and the valves themselves are HUGE - no loss of pressure or flow! I actually LIKE the fact that they're plastic and lighter then a similar brass valve because by the time you add a quick disconnect fitting (brass because, lets face it the plastic ones just suck) and a good nozzle of some sort (again the decent ones are brass or stainless and they're heavy) the whole assembly gets a little heavy. Anyway, get something else.

This is a well constructed hose end valve that works well. The only thing that I think should be improved is the valve operating handle. From past experience with these valve the lever should be longer to provide more leverage. These valve tend to get stiffer with age and become more difficult to operate.

This is good if you want to save water
Item is well made, all metal construction. How ever it is a reducing valve, going from full size to about 1/4 inch (estimated not measured). This is good if you want to save water, not so good if you are wanting to water and area in a short amount of time. Overall I feel this is a good product and will buy again.

Leaks! Don’t Waste Your Money!
These things don’t shut off water flow completely. I installed onto my hose with no issue, the seal between the hose and the cutoff is perfectly water tight, however the shutoff doesn’t completely cut off the water! It starts as a fast drip then the pressure pushes it to a small stream. I didn’t bother to leave it on long enough to see how much farther open it would go with pressure behind it. I have never had this issue with a metal cutoff before. Plastic sure, but not brass and not so called “heavy duty”. I’ll keep them because sending them back is too much of a pain, but they’re only useful for changing out hose attachments without having to shut the water off at the spigot first. I would post a video, but Amazon won’t allow it, so I’ve put a photo showing how much it was leaking after just a few seconds.

Nice tight connections to garden hoses. Wish the lever were just a tad longer.
Nice tight connections to garden hoses. Wish the lever were just a tad longer. With arthritis, may be difficult to fully turn off the flow of water. However, it's solid in build and does it's job perfectly well otherwise. Comes with a nice number of seals as well. An unexpected bonus.

Not Quite the Quality One Would Expect from Brass
I purchased this item in August 2017 and used it until the end of the gardening season - about November 1, 2017. I then put the valve in my work shed for the winter. This morning (May 18, 2018) I planted my first 18 tomato plants and got out the stored hose and this valve. I connected the valve to the hose and to my hose-end sprayer, turned on the water, and began to water the freshly planted tomatoes. Imagine my surprise when I found out that the valve was split down the middle. Not quite the quality one would expect from a brass ball valve. The plastic ball valves I purchased at Home Depot have lasted 5 years and I am beginning the 6th year of usage.

Works fine. A bit disappointed at the extent that the ball valve restricts flow - quite a narrow passage. Not a flaw in the product and the quality is good. Just expect reduced flow through your hose.
