Excellent poetry!
So, like many, I discovered Neil through his viral video. I stuck around, watched and read more of his work, and decided it would be worth supporting him.So far, I love this book. It has quite a few of his 'internet' famous poems like "OCD" and "Joey", but there are more than a few surprises to be found inside.Fair warning, however, if you don't really know much about Neil or his poetry, these aren't about sunshine and puppies. A lot of the poems are dark and are biographical, which means the desire to commit suicide is brought up many times. While I like the poems, I wouldn't classify almost any of these as the kind from which you walk away feeling good with a smile. Don't think for a moment these poems will make you feel good. They will make you think, may take you to some dark places, and you may even find you like them.

What a good book
I absolutely love Neil's work! The way he describes depression and mental health in relation to his art while mixing it all with humor is totally magical! Can't wait to read more!

A fantastic window into the raw reality of what life will throw at you.
I got this book because I’ve seen promotions galore on it from poetry people and let me tell you, this book is a waterfall of comedic heartbreak that will take you on a journey into both realism and fantasy. Neil tells things like they are in such a way that makes you feel like he is speaking directly to you. There were times where I was literally sweating and getting anxious jitters as I read, and that does not happen to me easily. If you are looking for a poetry book to make you laugh, cry, ponder your existence, and generally enjoy, buy his book. Your time will not be wasted.

Beautiful, honest, poignant
I got interested in poetry when I saw a video of Neil performing his poem "OCD". Since then, he has been one of my favorite poets. This book is absolutely incredible. It is raw emotion that has been simmered into words and then spilled onto a page. To me it is an honest reflection of brokenness attempting to move toward being wholly repaired. When you get it, read it twice. Tear through it in one sitting and then go back and read each piece on its own, let it sit with you; feel it deeply. I have already recommended this book to my friends and family and have reread it several times in the short week I have had it.

Worth the time
Neil has way with words. They hit you full force, if they are remotely relevant to your life experience. He is also really good at creating vivid imagery with words. I recommend this to anyone who is an abstract thinker and has ever felt... well, anything.

Should be required reading in very high school
Imagine the kid who's floating through days and nights feeling alone in his feelings and trapped in their mind. At 42, I can look back on every sadness and every difficult time in my life and see it directly tied to something good - even a lesson that enabled me to change my life in a positive way. But to an adolescent or young adult struggling with identity, hormones, peer pressure, and perhaps some depression or anxiety, these difficult times can seem insurmountable. Unbearable. Thank you, Neil, for your candor and vulnerability.

Powerful stuff, but far better to watch and hear than to read...
Ever since I saw Neil Hilborn's poem 'OCD' performed live on Youtube, I really loved this guy. Unafraid to talk about mental health, his few poems I've watched performed (including 'The Future' and 'Joey') are relatable and inspiring in so many ways. I bought this book for my fiancé because he too is a huge fan and I decided it would be a nice little read for this month. I'm dying to start getting into more poetry, so a poet whose work I've enjoyed is definitely a good place to start. It's a short book, and for me the poems were mixed. I loved some of them ('OCD' obviously, 'Joey', 'Dust Mop', 'Bystander Paralysis' and 'Little Poems'). They felt like little flashes of something that really spoke to me and about the way our world (sadly) currently works. Hilborn is definitely very aware of the current state of affairs and these poems are a desperate bid to speak out about it. They were humorous too, which made them entertaining. Other poems I didn't really GET. I am not well practiced in reading verse so I think they would take a few reads to understand a deeper meaning. There was a definite sense that these poems found Hilborn at particular, random moments and Hilborn speaks a lot about his own mental illness and his fear that treating it with medication will tamper with his creative juices. Some of these poems are only going to make sense to Hilborn himself because of this, and that's okay. It sort of makes them more charming, but also will definitely put some people off as they become a little nonsensical at times.

Poetry to drown in
Waited ages for this to come through after Amazon ran out. I was not disappointed! You know how when you hype something up so much in your own head hat nothing could ever match just how good it is? This matches the hype, picks it up, shakes it around a bit and slathers it over your soul like a balm to all that darkness and misery. Joey was the second poem I ever read of Neil's and it stays with me now, every day I find myself thinking of new ways out. Road rash and the exit sign. The snow. Neil's beard. It's all so very immense. It touches me, soulside. Thanks for putting it out there, thanks for reading and thanks - many thanks for being.

All about Mental Health and dealing with the troubles of life.
The poetry that Hilborn writes is not the usual type, but the first time I heard 'OCD' I knew I had to buy the book, his poetry could make you cry, laugh and scream all at the same time. The way I found his poetry was through a Facebook and Youtube page called 'Button Poetry' it has hundreds of poets making the same kind of poems as Hilborn, most of them are around Mental Health and how it makes you feel, people relate to these poems and it makes them think that they're not alone in feeling the way they do; or at least that's the way it was for me. Buy this book it will change your life; just like it has to mine.

Beautiful, energetic lines that balance the challenges of living with mental illness with the gratitude of being alive!
Energetic and complex, Neil Hilborn is honest about his and other's experiences and conditions. The reader is drawn into the world of his high-energy words and he adds beautiful twists and unexpected moments where one feels they are in the most intimate of moments with the poet. The book values those with mental illnesses, however, it does not glorify the struggles, but instead expresses the gratitude for being there to write on that day, in that moment. Artful expression of the poet's truth.

An interesting look at a difficult topic
Really interesting poems, as Neil Hilborn's always are. Never what I would call an easy read but plenty to get in to. I would say I prefer the Future but certainly worth adding to your collection if you liked Future.
