The Essential Gwendolyn Brooks: (American Poets Project #19)

The only poem I knew of Brooks was We Real Cool which I've always loved, but The Essential Gwendolyn Brooks opened me up to her talent. Lyrical, enjammed, blues, staccato poetry is a joy read. She wrote most of her poetry about African-american culture and was inspired to write in her Chicago neighbourhood called Bronzeville. Check this must read out!
