I've waited six months to post this. This works!
I have a 33 acre property located in central Georgia dedicated to training gun dogs, Labrador Retrievers. When we purchased the property six years ago it was inundated with fire ant mounds. To train these dogs we us remote controlled dummy launchers at distances as far as 250+ yards. Initially it was impossible to train. The risk of a dummy landing on a mound and the dog getting a mouthful of fire ants was too high.Out of desperation my wife and I loaded up on Ortho Orthene and walke our main pasture, 23 acres end-to-end. We lost count after dusting over 800 mounds. It sort of worked. It would kill a mound but because fire ant mounds have multiple queens a new mound would sometimes pop up a few feet away. I was able to open up training areas but the fire ants kept coming back.Last year I was turned on to Extinguish plus. At a little over $10 per pound it could be expensive but they recommend only one to one and a half pounds per acre. Here's where it gets tricky. Most spreaders can't be set at that low a setting! At three to four pounds per acre Extinguish would be too expensive. My solution was to mix the Extinguish with pelletized lime. It costs a little over ten cents per pound in bulk. It is an ideal medium for carrying the Extinguish. I premixed a few 5 gallon buckets, loaded them on my Ranger with the spreader mounted on the back. I treated the 23 acre field with the 25 pound bag last fall while it was still hot enough that the ants were active. It is now early spring. It's obvious where I missed treatment, there are a couple of small groups of fresh mounds. Happily, most of the pasture is mound free for the first time in six years!I will be repeating this process twice a year, spring and fall from now on.

It works great, been buying this every year to get rid of the black fire ants on my property
I typically kills off all the mounds in the first two weeks. I have a hay field across the street from me, and every year when they cut the hay my yard gets reinfested. You can see the queen ants flying around for about a week after they mow, then the mounds start showing up. I was using Amdro Pro before, as it has the same active ingredient but it cost twice as much. I just wish it would keep in storage for more than a year. It has oils in it, and once it goes rancid the ants won't take the bait anymore. So I typically share what I have left over with my neighbors each year. It's by far way better than anything you can get from the big box stores.

Works!
We broadcast Extinguish plus earlier this spring. It took a little time for the mounds to die, but they did. I haven't seen an active mound on our property in weeks.

I give it a 1, only bc description use wasn't clear. Beware NOT for grazing cattle.
I was excited EXTINGUISH would help us to elimate the fire ants, in our cow pastures. The vendor's description on Amazon, says its safe for animals. I ordered it and found that it is listed SAFE for COMPANION animals, i.e. horses. Limas, but is NOT to be used on pastures for grazing animals used for FOOD, i.e. cattle. I promptly returned it. I do give the Vendor kudos for refunding me the costs for it. If you don't have farm production animals, I'm sure it would be a great valve, and seemed it would be easy to spread with a seeder. It was priced very well, compared to other products found. I'm still looking for a product to elimate the fire ants, that will be safe for grazing food animals.Note to the vendor, please update the product description to indicate EXTINGUISH is NOT for use on pastures where cattle will graze. Thank you.
