Fantastic
This is what all racing biographies should be like - full of interesting details I was unaware of and copiously illustrated. I can’t recommend it enough if 60’s, 70’s and 80’s racing is your thing…

Disappointment in that the book is devoid of engineering content
After waiting nearly three years from announcement to printing, this book is a disappointment. While the book is an important contribution to Jim Hall and Chaparral history, it is amazingly devoid of engineering content. Jim Hall and his team were perhaps the most important race car innovators of his era -- rear engine pioneering, ground effects, general aerodynamics, drive train (especially transmission) innovation. Some of these developments are mentioned in very general terms, some not even mentioned. I was hoping for a book more oriented to engineering, as opposed to the orientation of a genuine enthusiast, but someone not into the technology that made the Chaparrals so competitive. Nevertheless, this book is a must for anyone interested in 1960's American road racing.

Amazing Book, Amazing Story!
I waited quite a while for this book to be released, it was worth the wait. This book is comprehensive and well written. Jim Hall had an amazing career in motorsports as a driver, team manager, car designer and constructor. Jim was a visionary, particularly in the area of aerodynamics and ground effects. Most of the advances in ground effects, which are so critical to today's racing cars, can be traced directly back to Jim. In addition to his amazing career, Jim seems to be a really cool guy, which I am sure contributed to his success. Thanks for everything you contributed to the sport Jim, it is truly inspirational!BTW, great and rare photos fill the pages, taking you back to the greatest period in auto racing.

Long overdue bio of an American Icon whose approach to auto racing inspired a generation
I super enjoyed this book from start to finish. This well written book (with outstanding photos throughout) perfectly captures why Jim Hall inspired a generation of drivers, engineers, and builders in the 60s and 70s as well as how his innovations are still the foundation of today's F1 racecar technology. Highly recommended!

Not the greatest
I wanted a lot more detail about the various models of cars. This is more of a "he said, she said" kind of book. VERY lazy captioning of pictures with captions taken verbatim from the narration. You would be better off tracking down an old Profile Publications booklet on the Chaparrals.

Fantastic Book.
Well written, professionally designed, sewn binding (opens nearly flat), clear, sharp photos, fully indexed. Plus it tells the complete backstory of the creation of Jim Hall's Chaparrals found nowhere else.
