Breeding the Racehorse by Federico Tesio
What more can be said of the "Master of Dormello", Federico Tesio; except that there are many people out there who do not realize just who he was, and how important his research is, even today. Tesio was indeed the master breeder, and following his research will make one just that much more wise when it comes to breeding decisions. Most all of the winning racehorses in the world today trace to Tesio's breeding stock, and he never produced more than a dozen foals in any one year. Any of Tesio's three books should not only be read, but read and read again and again, and you will learn more with every reading.

This is more of a historical document about how Frederico Tesio went down many rabbit warrens before he realised that breeding was much more an art than science.

a highly valuable ingredient to develop a breeding philosphy
this is without a doubt one of the most valued books I have in my "racing library". I race and breed quarter horses, but because of the lack of material on that specific subject I am often drawn to books on TBs. The most amazing aspect of this book is that if you changed the names and dates, Mr Tesio's ideas and predictions are extremely accurate in todays world. The openess in which he shares his ideas and the details of his breeding program are great . Very concise and to the point.

If you are interested in Modern theories Of Racehorse breeding
First Published in 1901 I am v thankful that the publishers have taken a chance on what i presume became a cost covering venture, at best. This is a fascinating insight into the work of Bruce Lowe in the late 19th century and latercontinued by Bill Lathrop. This is a verbatim accurate reproduction using the Authors original script. It is a Handsome book with a beautiful cover. If you have a hunch that the Sires contribution is perhaps over rated and the Dams similarly under rated then you may be pleased with this exquisite reproduction of A Alisons masterpiece.

A systematic and rational , wideranging analysis of the thoroughbred race horse. However the first 50 pages cover extremely tedious (for me to read) aspects such as colour markings and 'grey as a "disease" of the coat'. The second half of the book does explore interesting subjects but not into great depth and ultimately it is a record of observations that fail to develop.About observation & characteristics that is by no means a wasted read and covers many topics that an enthusiast will appreciate and find educational...rather than enjoy as a read.

Tesio - Master Racehorse Breeder
Bought because I owned a grand daughter of Nearco, the prolific sire that Tesio bred from which the Northern Dancer bloodline sprang. Very interesting views on breeding of racehorses based on observation and a lot of research with examples. Given this book was first printed in 1958 it still contains very relevant information. I did not know that the "Darley Arabian" was actually the "Darley Turk" and that there was a fourth Arab stallion the "Alcock Arabian" whose bloodlines have died out. Fascinating book for all those students of the thoroughbred horse.
