No more grinding sound, auto up/down works again on our 2015 CX-9!
Great deal on this replacement window motor for our 2015 Mazda CX-9! I bought and installed driver and passenger front motors. Both of our front windows started getting the dreaded grinding noise at about the same time (hard pill to swallow for a car only 5 years old). As a result, the auto up/down stopped working on both windows. Initially, I tried to disassemble one of the factory motors, so I could take the cheap way out and replace just the stripped gear (~$10). FAIL. I broke a few tabs when trying to separate the gear covers, which is why I decided to just order the whole new motor assemblies. The passenger side was weird. Installed the motor assembly, but I couldn't program the auto up/down. Whenever the window would get to the top (closed), it would automatically roll half way back down. Tried to program several times with same result. I ended up doing a battery reset (take negative cable off of car battery for ~2 minutes, then putting it back on). After that, I was able to program the auto up/down on the passenger window, no problem. The driver side went without a hitch. Replaced the assembly, reprogrammed the auto up/down, done. (Roll window all the way down, then all the way up while holding for ~3 seconds).Happy wife, happy life!Edit: I did want to add an additional troubleshooting step that I did prior to ordering these new window motors, in case it may help anyone...I moved the driver side rear window motor to the driver side front window. Worked great, no more grinding noise, but I could not program the auto up/down, no matter how many times I tried, and even after a car battery reset. It doesn't make sense to me, because I assumed the auto up/down is a limitation/function of the switch itself, and not the motor. This still has me stumped- but at the end of the day, the new window motors I ordered and installed work perfectly for both front windows.
