Mr Campion's Farewell (Campion mysteries)
C**H
Albert Campion lives on.
'Mr Campion's Farewell' is the first Campion novel to be written by Mike Ripley. He steps into the role of Mr Campion's biographer with style and with a sure touch. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. Margery Allingham created Albert Campion and in doing so she made him a subtle and likeable individual; she also populated his world with a host of truly memorable characters. Mike Ripley does full justice to that world. I am now reading the follow-on novel, 'Mr Campion's Fox', that is another great read. .

Campion
Am a sucker when it comes to the Albert Campion books, believe that this book largely follows the original style.

Almost as good as Allingham herself.
Superb book! Was sceptical at first at the thought of a Champion novel not written by Allingham herself but was pleasantly surprised. The plot was excellent and writing quality not quite up to Mrs A's (!) but came a very very close second. I have read all Mike Reid's Champion novels and can recommend every one.

Campion rides again
Always dubious about my favourite sleuths being taken on by another authour, but this has worked well. Do not fear as I did that Albert was about to be killed off. He simply finally accepts that he's getting too old for tackling the baddies. The presence of Lugg is missed, but he's even older. A good read for Campion fans.

Good fun
A little too mannered, perhaps; the author was clearly having fun and, understandably, 'showing off' from time to time. The plot and setting owe more than a little to 'real' Allinghams - Traitor's Purse in particular. But I'm still glad I stumbled on this serendipitously and recommend it warmly to Campion fans and all lovers of rollicking good yarns. Albert hasn't aged badly at all; not sure about Amanda though...

Such fun!
I've always enjoyed the original Albert Campion books and Mike Ripley's Angel books, and this combination is great fun to read. The icing on the cake is the descriptions of Cambridge and East Anglia in the late sixties/early seventies, when I was living there, fond memories.

Wonderful revival of the series by Mike Ripley
Wonderful revival of the series by Mike Ripley. This book perfectly captures the charm, humour and mystery of Margery Allingham's best writing. A thoroughly enjoyable throwback to an age and style few authors would dare to emulate today. I'm glad Ripley has.
