These are notably good for long legs. Not too tight and can stay up all day. Warm and breathable, but are rather bulky. You may need roomier footwear to accommodate the thick material. I appreciate the 100% wool construction while not being itchy for me. They are rather expensive so I hope they have longevity and don’t wear out quickly.

Went deer hunting today with my son which means I sat in a tree stand for two and a half hours this morning for the sunrise hunt. Temps were in the high 30's. These socks did the trick and kept my feet warm. I was glad i had them on. My son was wearing a brand new pair of Wigwam socks he got for Christmas yesterday and complained that his feet were frozen the entire hunt. Could not bring myself to tell him mine were warm all morning because they would go missing from my drawer. I will order him a pair, however. If you buy your boots to your shoe size, these socks will not work in your boots. These socks are very thick and your boots need to have some room for them. I am a 12 and usually order size 13 boots, so there was plenty of room. You do have to work the opening for the sock up your calf, but it expands as it goes. The socks stayed up the entire morning and we had to roam the woods for an hour looking for my son's deer. These are comfortable and warm socks that kept my feet and calves comfortable on a cold morning. Given the thickness and quality of these socks, they will last many years. Enjoyed the personal note and candy Santa that the sellers included in the package.

Upon removing these socks from the thoughtfully packaged wrapping, then looking at the socks and thinking, literally, "Austrians must have pretty skinny legs because there's no way these are going to go over my calves," I would never have believed these would fit. As it turns out, these go over my somewhat fat calves and stay held in place. The material is top-notch. The workmanship is of the highest quality, as far as i know there is only one seller of this item on Amazon, and if so, the people were so charming in their presentation, so nice, that I wouldn't have felt right sending them back had the socks not fit.UPDATED REVIEW. 9/3/2016I have been wearing these around the house on a tile floor now for a pretty good part of the entire summer months. I don't take them off to go get the mail and tend to whatever comes up along the way in my path while I'm outside. I live in the heart of the Mojave Desert so the ground gets pretty HOT. You don't want to walk around barefoot for sure, and I'm pretty sure that standard run-of-the-mill socks on this same hot ground just wouldn't cut it.I also walk across some small rock rocky terrain in my backyard that is just not recommended for anyone without shoes. The exception is when I have these Donegals on. So, I feel I spoke too soon originally if I judged prematurely, or unfairly.It is true that it would be wise to ensure that the boots or shoes you plan to wear over these are going to fit because they do have some bulk to them. If the shoes you wear now, you wear with everyday socks fit just fine, don't expect them to fit just fine with those same shoes once you put these on. That's my point.Otherwise barefoot in the summer, with these on your feet, like I said, in a word, are AWESOME, I love them, but my toes get a little cold, 'sometimes' not always. For the winter, I'll find out in the coming months. I'll update again sometime this winter, I'm prety sure I'll remember.For now, these have been serving me SO well all summer. They're GREAT. Perfectly comfortable for around the house, stepping outside, taking out the garbage, getting the mail on STEAMING, screaming hot ground. You don't even feel it. I'd dare anyone to try that without these on. Also, I have realized that these are pretty comfortable without shoes (as implied and stated) but also, if you don't have skinny calves, they are very cool and comfortable NOT yanked up to your knees and they stay on your feet without bunching up under your heels.GREAT socks. Why spend $80 on one pair of socks? Because you will love them every day for as many days as you can. Then you will soak them in mild soap, air dry and wear them again, for as many days as you can. These are not socks for under your suit trousers. These are socks to provide warmth and comfort in all kinds of cold, wet weather. These socks will change you opinion about giving socks as a present. If you think someone would enjoy, then take the plunge. You will have a friend forever.

feels good and fits well

10/20 review--Very thick and they cover my calves. I wear them with a one size larger boot and most people would need to do that.02/21 I am adding to this review. These socks are great at keeping your feet warm. I started wearing them in late October only for deer hunting. I walk approximately 0.25 of a mile to my stand. 10 times during season. Yesterday I put them on to ride snowmobile and probably walked 1/10th of a mile. There is a hole in the heel.Very happy with the warmth. Very disappointed with the durability. Less than 3 miles of walking and they are worn through.

Warm/comfortable

I was very careful about using the sizing guidelines but when I got the socks I couldn't even put them on. I was very disappointed.
