Absolutely beautiful book- love every page
I preordered this book some months ago so was excited to receive it yesterday. As a family we are avid children’s book enthusiasts so we looked forward to snuggling down with our new bedtime story. Wow, this book is stunning- in every way. It’s a beautiful and poignant story of childhood love and loss, and the enduring bonds of friendship. Louise Greig’s text is rich and evocative. It’s thought provoking in a similar vibe to Paper Dolls by Julia Donaldson and Rebecca Cobb or The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein. But I think the real jewel in this publication are the illustrations. Julia Moscardo’s artwork is breathtaking. She captures the natural and wild themes within the story and seamlessly juxtaposes these with the cozy warmth of domesticity in a way that reminds me of Helen Oxenbury. The detailed pictures fill every corner of the pages with meaning so that my (nearly) four year old moved my finger out of the way more than once to take in every element of the story.A new family favourite for us- we’ll be reaching for it regularly. Highly recommend. Would also make a lovely gift.

Home of the Wild Wonder
I’m totally in awe of some of the recent releases from Floris Books. We’d fallen in love with last year’s release Spin a Scarf of Sunshine and this years Sam and the Gnome’s Hat. Just when I thought things couldn’t get any better out of the Scottish mountains and glens comes Home of the Wild. A magical tale of home, friendship, love, the call of the wild and letting go, which is sure to leave not only your little ones, but you feeling all warm and fuzzy.A little boy, who loves nothing more than exploring and understanding the natural wonders of the world around him discovers a little abandoned fawn all alone. He takes him home to nurse him strong. His mother gently explaining that one day the fawn will be ready to return to the wild. He nurtures the small fawn, whom he calls Alba. The fawn does grow strong and a mournful boy releases him back into the wild. A storm rages and the boy worries for the fawn, yet as the wrathful tempest continues the boy’s situation becomes more perilous. Soon he’ll see just how strong his wild friend has become with his help. The lyrical words of Louise Greig dance off your tongue in gentle rippling whispers as you tell the tale of the small boy and delicate fawn. Júlia Moscardó’s illustrations so perfectly bring the story even more vividly to life and marry with the rhythm of the story in complete harmony.Incredible book that I would highly recommend. Thanks to Floris for sending this to us for review on our website.
