Lord Lucan - A Strange Encounter

Having purchased this book whilst half asleep I had thought it was a true story of events and was rather surprised how the book progressed and went back to check the books description. However disappointed i was to find it was a fiction, I carried on reading and can state that it was a very enjoyable book. I don't know what secret I expected it to reveal but was not disappointed. A factual account of a true story with a fictional twist.

I really enjoyed the writing style of this book. It was not slick and there were a few flaws both grammatically and in the concluding explanation of what had happened. Some of the explanations I felt did not add up, but for all those imperfections, it was an cracking good read, All the other books I've read about Lord Lucan have been non-fiction and just explained the facts, but this book handled the facts sensitively to conjure up an unusual novel.

Those of us of a certain age get a sort of closure from Clive's book. It's a very convincing factional construct that provides a satisfying epilogue to an unfinished story - and the brilliant device is that Lucan provides it himself! The characters are very well drawn, particularly Sidney Ainsworth, and the all facts and suppositions are carefully moulded in to a really compelling read.

Loved Clive Payne's deput novel which is very believable and a real page turner. I hope the protagonist Adam Baker who is a thoughtful and reluctantly inquisitive gentleman meets more strangers so we can have the satisfaction of him resolving more mysteries.

Engrossing read about what may have happened to Lord Lucan. Hopefully the truth will come out one of these days. I am pleased with my purchase and would buy again.
