Q: Is this really large enough for two kids to use at same time?

I'm sorry, but I can't answer that as it was a birthday gift for a great-niece.

Q: Is it a good idea to take the doodle mat to a plane or a restaurant? Or is it too big to carry with?

Definitely too big for either. I would look into a travel sized one for a restaurant. Not sure if there would be an issues with using on a plane since the 'markers' have to be filled with water to work.

They have 4. I will say that the tops were a little difficult to get off to add the water. Other than that its a cute little mat.

Q: does the marker write on furniture..or if the marker goes off the mat and onto the rug? will it write on the rug?

No it doesn’t work on anything besides the mat
