good and very bad
Interesting read. Don’t know why the actual book is so expensive. It’s a very repetitive book . Once the electronic drums are pointed out it hard to listen to the track againMost interesting thing is they were advised to split after B&W. May have been a good idea apart from the tracks Raven and Golden Brown would never have surfaced!

Hugh Cornwell
Great to hear Hugh’s side of Stranglers events and the meaning of their songs. He’s a great lyricist and musician. I’m still a huge fan of The Stranglers music and still play their music today and they are still one of my favourite bands, but only when Hugh was in the band. Others members have come and gone, but they can’t hold a candle to the magic that Hugh created.

A FASCINATING READ
An absolutely fascinating inside look into what's most important in popular music, i.e. the songs themselves. NOT the hype, NOT the one-night stands, NOT the clothes, NOT the fights (errr... actually there's some of that too, and a few lines about Hugh Cornwell's jacket that got stolen, but hey, the book's so interesting that even THOSE stories blend in quite nicely). Hugh Cornwell tells all about the inspirations for the songs, their time signatures, the 'quirky' guitar parts, why JJ Burnel's bass sounded as it did on the first 3 LPs... It was all I could do not to read in one single uninterrupted session.F Hameury

Excellent chat from the horses mouth..
About the best you're going to get with regards to why Hugh left the Stranglers .. Informative on the genesis of the tunes and if you're a fan quite unputdownable... Loved it. Dave Greenfield R.I.P

A great read...!
A great read. I've had to go and dig out all my Stranglers cd's and am now playing through them with renewed enjoyment.I've kept putting off getting a real copy and chose the electronic version, but now I shall be getting a "proper" copy to go on the bookshelf..If you like the Stranglers this read will give a new dimension to your listening pleasure...

This book is a text book for those who want to know about the songs but is also a damn good read!
Essential book for any Hugh Cornwell/Stranglers fan. Gives a fascinating insight into how, when, why and where each song was written. Also includes much information about the life of the band, including why Hugh Cornwell decided to leave. This book is a text book for those who want to know about the songs but is also a damn good read!
