Single pencil
Dark OchreI tend to buy the single pencil to 'try it & see' before (perhaps) indulging in the boxed set of 12, all the same. The pencil came well packed in a strong cardboard outer, lined with paper and is presented in a plastic-type sheath with the product code sticker on that rather than the pencil, so none of that sticky residue that is hard to get off.The elegant, hexagonal-barrelled pencil is around 17.5 cm in length and comes ready to use, with a lovely point. The barrel is close to the colour shade for the best part with a black flash, before a 1.5 cm, matte gold coloured, dipped, rounded end.In shiny, gold coloured lettering on one side is:★ ‘KOH-I-NOOR ~ HARDTMUTH ~ MONDELUZ ~ PAINTBRUSH EMBLEMThe last number is the colour code - the name of the colour is not on the pencil. On another side is more subdued barcode detailing. In my experience, the core is lovely & soft and a layer of the shade is achieved without too much pressure if using as a regular colouring pencil albeit with a little residue, depending on the texture of the paper. This residue can be used to create different effects and online tutorials are available to show the versatility of this type of pencil, especially as a watercolour, better than I can.The pencil sharpens up well with a quality, regular-sized sharpener, and as the core is soft it does need a fair bit.
