Once Upon an Eid: Stories of Hope and Joy by 15 Muslim Voices

I recently had the pleasure of reading "Once Upon an Eid: Stories of Hope and Joy," and I am delighted to say that it is a truly remarkable book. This collection of captivating and diverse tales, written by 15 Muslim voices, offers a powerful representation of the Muslim experience during the joyous occasion of Eid. It is a celebration of resilience, identity, and the universal themes of hope and joy.

This is a wonderful mix of middle grade stories; there's truly something for everyone. Some of the stories weren't as big a hit as others for me, but, overall, I enjoyed the collection. It's definitely middle grade and I think it would be good to share with younger kids, but adults can get a lot out of it too. As someone who isn't familiar with a lot of the cultural factors in the book, I did have to look up some things, but I think a lot of it was explained clearly enough by the authors that people from any background will understand. A lot of the stories emphasized the power of humanity and community and giving and that touched my heart very deeply. My favorites in the collection were Do'nut Break Tradition and Taste.

From the title I thought it might be for younger children, but the stories are appropriate for ages 9 through teens. Nice variety of themes and all well written.

Wonderful book! Our kids can totally relate to the religious and cultural references, including the Canadian ones 😂 We read at least two stories every night. We love the funny and well-written stories. Thumbs up for a second one!

Oh this was just lovely as an audiobook. Packed with loads of emotion, this little gem transported me throughout the world and gave me an insight into the Eids of various families.The customs and traditions of Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha were very well introduced for anyone wanted to learn about them in a simple manner.I'd definitely recommend.

This book is fascinating and it really makes me feel good when I read it. It reminds me of how wonderful Eid is.

What a wonderful read. It might be a children's/young adult book but it's honestly a fun read for every one. I sincerely appreciate that we have so many more options for literature for Muslims nowadays and so easily accessible!

Buy it for your children as an Eid present! Wonderful feel good stories by many authors coming from different places and races about celebrating Eid!

This was our group read for the #allyathon readathon.This book is not just about Eid - its about different cultures and there was so much representation in this book! This was a good opportunity for the authors to do that and they took FULL advantage of it.The full page illustrations are beautiful!I wish the graphic novel chapter was longer!The stories were thought provoking and image inducing5 stars!

Wonderful collection of Eid stories I want to have translated into German, so I can share it with Family and Friends. I never know I missed to have an Eid story book until I started to read this collection. As much as I love Eid and always try to make it special I forgot how giddy I felt as a child and this book remembered me of it. It has a special place in my heart and shelf now. A big thank you to the all the authors❤️
