Good product, flawed packaging
I ordered this trash can to replace a similar one that had gotten cracked. The design is good, it fits into the space between my stove and sink, and the "step on" feature works well. However, when it arrived the box was torn and the lid was scuffed and noticeably warped. I figured that was due to whatever rough handling had caused the ripped carton, so I requested a return /exchange. The exchange process went smoothly. I dropped the first one off at a UPS store, and in just a few days received the replacement. The replacement's carton was intact, but when I unpacked the item I could tell the lid on this one was warped also, although not quite as badly as the first one. Upon inspection, I believe this to be a result of poor packaging. The body of the trash can would have to be supported in the center of the carton to keep the lid (which is a little wider than the body) from skewing sideways while in transit. I decided to keep the second one, and hoped the lid would straighten out. Since putting it in place in the kitchen, it's straightened somewhat but is still slightly warped. I don't see that asking for another replacement would help, if the problem is as basic as poor packaging. I'm disappointed, but it's usable so I'm using it. It looks nice as long as you're not a stickler for levelness like I am.

Easy fix for poor lid design
This slim line kitchen garbage can has clean lines, fits in a narrow space and is sufficiently sturdy—all good features. The first one amazon sent me had a totally defective lid. The second one worked but the lid kept popping off. The lid design sucks, as many people have noted.Fortunately for me, another reviewer figured out a pretty easy way to remedy the design inadequacy—here are her instructions. Many thanks to Beth, who wrote this review, which I’m re-posting: Beth3.0 out of 5 stars Lid is bad design but I have an easy fix!Reviewed in the United States on November 12, 2019Color: BlackStyle Name: New Step-OnVerified PurchaseThe can is very sturdy and I like its sleek design. However, the lid pops off or turns sideways every time you step on the pedal to open it because the studs on the trash can side are too short to stay in the holes of the lid. I amended mine by inserting a small screw in the end of one of the studs. This extended the stud so it cannot pop off anymore. Insert the screw side into the hole on the lid first if you use this tip. Works like a charm! Rubbermaid needs to extend these in their manufacturing process or figure out a way to insert a rod straight through the lid when assembling.

It is slim and fits the space perfectly, but I don't think it's worth the money.
On the plus side, It is slim...it is charcoal...and fits the space perfectly. However, it is plastic (which I don't mind, Rubbermaid has always been a good product), but:(1) the hinge is also plastic and not sturdy; have no idea how long before it breaks.(2) the lid does not seem to open all the way unless I manually lift it....and then it pops out.(3) the hinge makes it impossible to easily insert a plastic liner(4) the title/description of the can says 11.5 gallon -- and the capacity listed below says 25 gallon.(5) AND the labels won't come off! I would expect the labels/stickers to peel off and maybe leave a little glue residue...but they tear off in little, shreds/pieces. A friend suggested WD40.

Narrow Fit A Plus, Glue On Labels A Negative
Bought this to fit a very narrow space in my bathroom where we keep the waste basket. It fits perfectly and that was a huge plus. The step on lid feature is useless unless you're willing to reattach the lid almost every time you use it. My orher HUGE complaint is rhat I had to spend approx. 1/2 hour with a can of Goof Off getting the sticky labels off and the sticky from tape used to keep the lid attached to the waste basket. You'd think a huge company like Rubbwrmaid would know, by now, what glues are compatible with their products. So I love the waste basket for its narrow size and its ease of cleaning - just wipe it down. But for the amount of work I had to put in on sticky stuff, I feel it is way, way over priced.

Odd smudge
I believe this is a brand new garbage can they sent me, but there's a weird smudge on it that was there from the moment I unwrapped it. It does not wipe off, it's not greasy....I can't figure out what it is. If it had been on the lid, I'd have returned it, but it's under the lid so oh well. This is my second of these garbage cans. The first one lasted over a decade. The reason I'm replacing it is bc the plastic tab that allows the lid to engage with the opening mechanism snapped off. I was really hoping they'd improved the design of that rather than just making the foot pedal fancier, but alas no. It should hold up for quite some time, but you can be sure I'll be back here reporting if it snaps off again ;) I don't usually pay $33 for a garbage can. However, it's the perfect size and shape so here's hoping this next one lasts at least another decade!

Poor quality
Very disappointed in the formerly reliable Rubbermaid brand. This cheap bin was most definitely not worth even a much less expensive price tag.Made of plastic carefully calculated to be as thin as possible to the nth micrometer. This bin brings to mind Rubbermaid employees seated in front their computers, checking calculus graph parabolas to ensure max profit for minimum materials and effort. Whoever said all that math would never come in handy? The lid pops off constantly because the plastic hinge was so poorly made. It has to be "snapped" (so badly done that it never actually snaps, it more sort of just quietly slithers into the well where it should click into place) back on after every use. I had to return it because I need a bin with a lid, not just a piece of plastic that rests on top.Maybe this is a one-off problem, but it looks more like a design flaw resulting from trying to make the cheapest possible product. You can do better than this Rubbermaid!

Slim but holds a lot. Great buy.
Holds a lot and fits in a very small space. It's for outside and it looks as if it will be quite durable. Snapped together beautifully (it came that way) and it's easy open with the foot pedal. The only thing I don't like is the lack of an inner liner, it just never occurred to me that it wouldn't have one. Warehouse buy at a huge discount, not a mark on it.
