Nice gift to my daughter
My daughter like to read books, so I bought this book for her on her birthday, she is so happy to read it, and attracted by the story, when she finished, she also told us about the book, the story, which make so proud to buy this book for her.

Review of Egmont hard back edition - simply glorious.
I've been on the lookout for an edition of Wind in the Willows with the E H Shepherd illustrations for a while and this Egmont edition with full colour illustrations right the way through the book certainly didn't disappoint. Although I wasn't massively keen on the bright green cover, the paper quality, type and above all the illustrations are just wonderful. Highly recommended.

Great story but some tough vocabulary.
I read this to my 7 year old grandson and he loved it. However, what I read was edited:• I left out Chapters 5 & 7, which seem to me pretentious fillings out, unconnected to the central story;• I used alternatives for lots of words few 7 year old (maybe some adults) will know. In just a few pages I can spot examples that I substituted: “habiliments”, “oratory”, “sculls”, “paroxysms”, “mullion”, “incorrigible”, “halberds”. I could go on, but any child reading this book by themselves will need a dictionary (or electronic equivalent).A modern child may also need some explanation of why a barge might need a horse, a train coal, or a house a “smoking room”.

A world that has gone - and all the more valuable.
I first met Wind in the Willows when I was 10: I enjoyed it then, and have enjoyed it ever since. I now have four copies in three editions - all very well worn. I cannot recommend this book too highly, the adults as much as to children.

For the human in all of us
I’ve read this twice now, and some of it multiple times. The passage where Ratty and Mole find their way out of the snowy night and into Badger’s kitchen is a favorite. I love to read it when I’m feeling down. It’s quite a pick me up.The book has its odd moments. Somehow it never seems to quite coalesce, but that may be for the good. It feels more like a strange and powerful meditation peppered with Willowy notions of a kind of odd masculine-feminine perfection of feeling. It’s more a book to curl up with, than a pressing what-happens-next story. And yet you must read it all. Froggy’s imprisonment and escape are certainly full speed ahead drama, as much so as Mole’s home-sickness is not, even if it is still quite compelling. And the Return of Ulysses while it may be classically delightful, does seem to raise vigilantism to an impossibly over the top spectacle. But there is a moment I used to remember as the end of the book, but it occurs before the halfway mark. In it Ratty hears and feels a calling from beyond as they search for a missing child on a strange island. It’s a moment that had me utterly spellbound. That this book somehow achieves moments of such believable magic, even in one so skeptical as myself, is why it has always seemed to me to be amongst the most plaintively human of children’s novels, if, indeed, it is proper to limit its appeal to children, or that narrow and often ridiculous term “the child in all of us”. I say instead, it is for the human in all of us.
