BEST WESTERN COLLECTION
THIS IS THE BEST COLLECTION OF A RECENT WESTERN COWBOY SERIES.THE STORY LINE PLAYS THROUGH THE BEGINNNING TO THE END OF THE ENTIRE SERIES.YOU LEARN TO LOVE CERTAIN CHARACTERS AND ABSOLUTELY DISLIKE OTHERS.THE BEST PART IS YOU CAN WATCH THEM AS YOUR SCHEDULE ALLOWS VERSES THE SCHEDULE OF THE TV NET WORKS.A GOOD EXAMPLE OF HOW GOOD THIS SERIES IS WE STARTED WATCHING THESE AT OUR HUNTING CAMP ONE NIGHT AT APPROXIMATELY 6 P.M. AND FINALLY STOPPED AT 12:30 A.M. BECAUSE WE WANTED TO SEE THE END OF RETURN TO LAREDO.WE NORMALLY NEVER WATCH TV OR VIDEOS WHILE THERE DO TO ALL THE OTHER ACTIVITIES ASSCOCIATED WITH A HUNTING CAMP.THE DOWN SIDE OF THAT EVENT WAS NONE OF US GOT UP AT 4 A.M. TO HUNT THE NEXT MORNING!ONE MORE THING IS THAT SEVERAL OF THE GUYS AT CAMP HAVE NOW BOUGHT THE SERIES AND WATCHED THEM ALL THE WAY THROUGH AGAIN.THESE WERE DEFINITELY A HIT AS A CHRISTMAS GIFT FOR MY SON.HIGHLY RECOMMEND AS YOU WILL WATCH THEM TIME AND AGAIN,AS WELL AS THEY WILL NEVER BECOME BORING OR OUT DATED IN MY OPINION!

The best western ever made.
This is the best western movie ever made. The actors live the scenes. This is probably the best movie ever made, because it effects you emotionally after watching it. You feel the pain and joy of the people as you watch the story develop. When someone is killed, you can feel the sense of loss. After watching this video, you feel you have made the cattle drive from Texas to Montana. You can feel the sense of joy from completeing the trip and the pain of losing you friends (family) along the way.

I'm a bit disappointed with this set
I'm a bit disappointed with this set. I was excited when I received it. The shows themselves are fantastic and deserve a 5 star treatment, but it's incredible to me that there are no subtitles for the hearing impaired. I don't usually complain about these types of things, but the sound quality of the Lonesome Dove shows are not very good and since there are no subtitles, I have to keep rewinding and listening again. It just got a bit too much work for me, I'm afraid, and the entertainment value was lost so I had to shut it off. Does anyone know if there is a different Lonesome Dove package that either has better sound quality or subtitles to help out people like me? Again, I'm really not knocking the show, I love it. This package just isn't friendly to those of us who want to actually HEAR what's being said. I purchased Comanche Moon, which is a prequel to Lonesome Dove and a lot less popular, and even it had subtitles, so I was able to enjoy it immensely.Peace.

Coming of Age in The West
A great collection....and an unexpected bonus. STREETS OF LAREDO has some bonus footage on it that previous DVD releases did not. Reinstated many sequences and much dialogue from the book...the main ones being Maria leading the whores to safety out of Crowtown...

Can't wait to give this to my man next week for his birthday! He LOVES this series and had it in VHS form but couldn't find them when he moved (which is fine because he doesn't have a way to play them). He is going to be so excited. Plus I get hours of couch cuddle time. I say we both win.

Terrific Collection
I purchased the Lonesome Dove collection for my husband and was pleasantly surprised to receive a collection of 4 movie series that we have both come to enjoy. If you enjoyed the original Lonesome Dove mini series, then I highly recommend the subsequent 3 movie series in this collection. The boxed set is very well done and includes a deck of themed playing cards. If you like to "cut the cards" then this collection is for you!

Best epic western, but...
Words fail to explain how we've so enjoyed Lonesome Dove over the years. Some caveats....Sometimes in the last two movies the scenes seemed a bit slow--probably a result of the TV mini-series for which they were made. It's important to keep in mind that the third movie, The Streets of Laredo, is set chronologically well after the first two movies. It is sometimes difficult to keep this in mind since the actors are portrayed as looking much younger than those playing their respective parts in the first two movies. One unfortunate problem with this edition is that part two of the three parts was lost in production. That is to say, there are two disks, containing only part one and part three. Part two didn't make it in production. The final movie explores the early years of Gus and Woodrow when they first became Texas Rangers. It is a pretty good movie, but little is done to show how such green boys developed such strong character. In fact, it might have been better to write the movie without reference to Lonesome Dove story-lines or characters. All said, this package delivers a gazillion hours of enjoyment for a small cost.

Four movies, four Woodrows.
Dead Man's Walk, featuring the young Woodrow Call and Augustus McCrae, is a good yarn but the characters are so far detached in age, from the Woodrow and Gus of Lonesome Dove that it seems like there's a volume missing. In my opinion it's a pity that the jump from young, inexperienced Texas Rangers, to retired Texas Rangers isn't covered. If, like me, you saw Lonesome Dove first, I expect Tommy Lee Jones will forever be Woodrow F. Call and it takes some getting used to that John Voight becomes Woodrow in Return To Lonesome Dove, and James Garner takes on the role in Streets of Laredo. Once that barrier was overcome however, I thoroughly enjoyed watching all four films in order.A few more performers reappearing from film to film would have enhanced the enjoyment, but still a good buy.

Make sure you watch the 4 films and Comanche Moon in the right order as the characters age
Lonesome Dove with Robert Duvall and Tommy Lee Jones was by far the best film (5*). The rest weren't as good and the James Garner one was probably the weakest. A pity that they couldn't have kept the same actors throughout and aged them. Not worth £50 for the set. So maybe just get Lonesome Dove on it's own?

Lonesome Dove set
This set arrived quickly and we ended up watching it practically every night til it was finished although we'd seen it all before. It was overpriced though due to the little pamphlet of photos and a special deck of cards...nice cards, true, but we don't play cards and I would rather have had the option to pay less for just the DVDs. Naturally it didn't quite match the books, but that's okay and wasn't expected.

Great story of the old west
I had this item on video but wanted a DVD copy so I can keep watching it. So much to see and the acting by all the people is really good. The story line is very realistic of how life used to be in the west. Its a shame so few real stories make it to the screen now, its good to see a story run its course rather than just all killing and special effects.I'd give it 10 out of 10 for a story to enjoy.
