Great story for children of all ages.
I see a lot of reviews stating that Island of the Fog: Book 1 is a great children's book and it is but it's so much more than that. I'm nearly 40 and enjoyed the book very much. Not only is the book kid friendly but you will also find yourself loving it just as much as your children do. The world is hauntingly familiar yet contains many elements of fantasy and lore. Most of the time I don't really enjoy reading a book about children. Only a handful of very good authors seem to do books with kids as the main characters justice. They're able to get inside the kids complex mind or they are able to recall what it was like to be younger and treat them with the intelligence and respect that they deserve without making them too cliché. Books like Harry Potter or His Dark Materials are great examples. And of course on the other end you have YA books where the authors put way too much emphasis on action instead of characters or story and manage to only paint a mere shadow of the complexity of young adults. Bad examples like The Maze Runner which while a fun read did not manage to capture any depth with the children it portrays. So Island of the Fog was a welcome treat and is very character driven. The characters are complex and vivid and the storyline keeps you hooked until the last page. The action is used to enhance the story and it does so nicely. For everyone who's ever dreamed of Dragons, unicorns, large sea serpents, centaurs, fairies and Ogre's then this is the book for you. It manages to capture the child within us all and I am greatly looking forward to the next one.

Highly recommend this book for middle school students! The kids would love the narration by Fred Wolinsky!
"Excellent book for middle school students!"Overall 4 StarsPerformance 4 StarsStory 4 StarsWould you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?I would indeed recommend this book to a friend. In fact I have a friend or two who teach middle school that I hope to make aware of this book. Keith Robinson does a fine job of creating a fantasy world where mythical creatures come to life in a world overrun by death and disease and manages to give the reader hope that in the end things are going to be alright. What was one of the most memorable moments of Island of Fog, Book 1?For me the most memorable moment is when the children all come to terms with the fact that they are changing not into monsters but into heroes. They know they will never be the same, but that's alright because they are becoming more than they ever thought possible.Which character – as performed by Fred Wolinsky – was your favorite?I think Hal is my favorite character. He seems to have the most difficulty with the changes he is going through, but ends up being the one who changes the most. He seems to be the most scared by what he is going through, but when push comes to shove he shows himself to be the most brave.Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?I did not. There were a few places where I laughed a little, but there were no really emotional moments for me.Any additional comments?I emailed Fred Wolinsky to let him know that I was enjoying the book but found many of the voices, especially the children's, rather cartoonish. He said that was the way that the author wanted them done so mission accomplished. Fred, bless his heart, could do a perfect Tigger in a Winnie the Pooh movie. I think he was perfect for this book and should do the rest of the series. I believe that older elementary school students up through middle school would love this audiobook.I received this audiobook from the narrator in exchange for a fair review.

A Fun Tale for Junior High Schooler
I just finished Percy Jackson before moving on the Island of Fog and I have to say, I enjoyed this books much more. Both are aimed at Junior High aged kids but Island of Fog hangs together far better as a story. If you like the Harry Potter books and the Percy Jackson books, then you'll definitely want to check out Island of Fog. This is a post apocalyptic world, where humanity has been wiped out by a virus, all except for a ten families who were sequestered on a island and kept safe a strange fog which filters the air. At the time the story stars, the original ten are down to eight, and each family has on child, 12 years of age. They children are genetically, or magically, engineered by some beings from a mythical land, Elsewhere, that needs there help. But the kids are going through some strange changes, and monsters are suddenly being seen on the island. Their safe haven is no longer safe, but perhaps even worse, is the kids desire to see a clear blue sky. This is all tied up with the pre-teens starting to be attracted to each other. The premise is good, the writing is crisp and the characters, and the monsters are believable. I'm rather interested to see what book two will be like.

Nice adventure
This is a great fantasy book for 10-13yr old. I enjoyed the flow of the story n characters. I like that it starts on a small island to then move on to another world. The series would be a nice Christmas gift to a book lover.

A fun story
The Island of Fog is a really good story. It held my attention to the point that I didn't want to put it down. I really liked that it wasn't overly repetitive. The story was solid and well told, with just enough mystery to keep you going. I'm looking forward to the next book.

In some ways, better than Harry Potter
This is a surprisingly good read. There’s a sense of mystery, fantasy, coming of age, and adventure. What I think the book is good at is the smart dialogue, in the sense not everyone is smart and spouts clever long monologues, but rather they are well crafted and realistic. One example that struck out was when the mother was explaining to her son that she was expecting (pregnant), and he asked, “Expecting what?”To me that seems like a very plausible scene. There are more examples of it and I find the whole story very enjoyable. One thing the book struggled with is there are quite a number of characters, 8 children with their own specialties and personalities, and requires juggling the story’s focus. Add to that the dialogues, it can be complicated a bit to read or sometimes feel truncated. JK Rowling solved this by focusing on Harry, Hermione and Ron in the Harry Potter series, GR Martin dedicated chapters (or even books) to Jon Snow and his siblings. so let’s see how the writer handles this in the next books. Looking forward to read the other books.A recommended read for fans of fantasy novels.

HATS OFF TO Mr. ROBINSON!!!!
At first I wasn't completely sure of this book. But after sometime I couldn't keep it down ! This book is about a small village situated on an island shrouded with fog which protects its inhabitants from a apocalyptic disease which has already begun on the mainland. The protagonist of this book 'Hal' and all other characters were constructed in a unique and fantastic way. Overall this book is a must read to sci-fi and fantasy fans as this has become by favourite book.

Amazing fantasy series for young and old
I love this book(s)It was a lucky day when I stumbled across it and didn't have any other book at hand. The characters feel vividly real, children really behave like children. The plot is interesting to follow, fast paced and surprising - avoid the spoilers ;).There are however so many characters, that not all get fully developed in this book, but I read them all by now and let me reassure you, they will be later, no important character is left behind. It is a book about young teenagers, it is probably meant for teens between 10 and 15, but I am way past that age and still enjoyed it immensly! While I think it is fit for children that age, it offers enough topics that still appeal to adults and of course let's you re-live your feelings as a very young teen. From the very beginning, the mystery is really gripping , most elements are not new and have been done before, but it's done in a so intriguing way that it feels very unique! The writing is really good, -> admitted, the author has a thing for some words like "haphazard(ly)", but it comes across charming rather than annoying :)All in all this book is great, the whole series is really and I hope it'll get more attention soon. It's not Harry Potter, but not far from it!!!
