GREAT TELESCOPE AT A GREAT PRICE!
I purchased the SVBONY SV503 70ED refractor telescope last summer, but due to weather (two hurricanes!) I was unable to try it out until late November. It performed beautifully! The first few targets were the Pleiades, Andromeda, and the North American Nebula. All came out fantastic. The FPL51 glass in the objective lens approaches the performance of APO scopes that are over twice the price. The dual-speed focuser is super smooth and it's easy to get perfect focus with a Bahtanov mask. The draw tube length of 90mm offers a wide range of distances for achieving focus with various spacers, filters, or the reducer. It also has markings (down to the millimeter) on the side of the draw tube to help get the focus back after making changes to the optical chain. If you have recorded the distance mark from a previous setup, going back to that setup is much easier to get the focus close, so that the time needed when doing that kind of a change is greatly reduced. The extendable dew shield keeps out dew and stray light and stays in place without getting stuck. Overall, the quality of the build is excellent. I also purchased the 0.8x reducer for this scope's bigger brother, the SV503 80ED and it works great with this 70mm f/6 to reduce it down to an f/4.8 focal ratio for a slightly wider field of view. I recommend the reducer with this scope. It is essential if you wish to capture all of M-31 (Andromeda) or M-45 (The Pleiades) in a single frame. As far as optical quality, images are sharp and bright. Even though it's not an APO, I didn't notice any significant blue or purple halo's around bright stars. They weren't completely eliminated, but the very minor ones that did show up were hardly visible or were easily removed via processing. I highly recommend this telescope for astrophotography.

Great Scope.
Buetiful telescope and I got it 3 days early. It's all metal and glass and the only thing that feels cheap is the price tag. It's heavy. So you're going to need a real mount for this beast. A little star tracker is likely not going to cut it when just the OTA is 8lbs and putting this thing on a tripod would be criminal. This thing is for gazing at DSOs, not the moon and you'll lose the bulk of its capabilities putting it on a tripod. You'll want an EQ mount. One that can track with at least 15-20lbs on its back. Great optics, mind-blowing price. SV is going to make the entire industry work for their bread. The fit and finish on this thing is akin to lab grade. Great glass and the focuser is awesome. Well made. Easy to mount. This isn't a toy scope. This is a legit instrument and it looks awesome on my Heq5. Now I need stickers of a flaming mustang running through stars. Because this little pony is an SVBony. We should brag about it.

An awesome scope!
I purchased the SVBONY SV503 Telescope in Jan 2024 and have been using it for about 9-10 months now, and it has exceeded my expectations in every way. This telescope is a fantastic choice for both visual observation and astrophotography. Though I have primary used it for astrophotography. Here are some of the pros and cons I’ve experienced: Pros: Exceptional Optics: The 80ED F7 OTA with a 560mm focal length provides stunningly clear and bright images. The 80mm aperture allows for excellent light gathering, making it perfect for both planetary and deep-sky observations1. Compact and Portable: Despite its powerful capabilities, the SV503 is lightweight and easy to transport. This makes it ideal for stargazing trips and quick setups2. High-Quality Build: The telescope is well-constructed with durable materials. The dual hinged mounting rings and Vixen style dovetail make it easy to mount on various EQ or AzAlt mounts2. Versatile Use: Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced astronomer, this telescope is user-friendly and versatile. It’s great for capturing high-resolution images of celestial objects and for general sky watching1. Value for Money: Given its features and performance, the SV503 offers excellent value for its price. It’s a great investment for anyone serious about astronomy3. Cons: Limited Accessories: The telescope doesn’t come with a lot of accessories, so you might need to purchase additional eyepieces or a diagonal separately to get the most out of it4. Manual Focus: While the manual focus is precise, it can take some time to get used to, especially for beginners. An electronic focuser would have been a nice addition5. Overall, the SVBONY SV503 Telescope is a remarkable piece of equipment that delivers exceptional performance for both viewing and astrophotography. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to explore the night sky with clarity and detail

Very Good Scope at a Great Price
The SVBony SV503 is a very good small ED refractor at a very attractive price. I purchased it primarily as a "Grab & Go" visual scope, but it appears well suited for astrophotography as well. I've only had the opportunity to use it once so far for viewing the moon. Yes, there was a very slight color fringe on the moon's limb, but it was not disturbing. In general the view and moon detail were excellent. I pushed the magnification to over 100x and there was no breakdown of the image at all - not bad for an 80mm scope. Since the SV503 utilizes an objective doublet with one element made from Ohara FPL-51 ED glass it is not a true apochromatic scope. There is some chromatic aberration (CA) on bright objects, like the moon, but it appears to be minimal. The optical tube assembly (OTA) is very solid and well made with three internal baffles. It has a built-in dew shield that is retractable for easy storage. The focuser is a 2", two-speed fine pitch helical track rack and pinion (R&P) style that can rotate 360 degrees for better framing of photographs or more convenient viewing if mounted on an equatorial mount. My scope arrived with significant backlash in the coarse focuser adjustment. This is not a cheap or bad focuser, however. There are several 1.5mm set screws on the focuser that control the alignment and tension of the focuser mechanism. Although these are not meant to be user adjustable, I found the correct set screw and I was able to slightly tweak it to completely eliminate the backlash. I have another scope with a true Crayford style two-speed focuser and after adjusting the SV503 R&P focuser it is virtually every bit as smooth and free of play or backlash as the Crayford focuser. The R&P focuser helical gearing also eliminates the "creep" that can occur on a Crayford style focuser that has no gears and relies solely on friction to move the focus tube. Overall the fit and finish of this scope is excellent - nothing appears to be "cheap" on this OTA. It has the "feel" of a much more expensive instrument. I deducted one star from this review due to the out of adjustment focuser and the fact that it ships with absolutely no instructions or user manual - in fact no paperwork at all! Some scopes of this class come with a storage case, but at a much higher price. I was able to find a very nice third party case (sold by Amazon) at a good price that suits this scope well. As a Grab & Go scope the SV503 is exactly what I was looking for and I may even try some astrophotography with it. {Note in the attached pictures the case and accessories must be purchased separately and are not included with the SV503.} Pros: Excellent price for an 80mm ED scope. Good ED doublet objective lens. Retractable dew shield. Good Helical R&P 2", two speed focuser. Focuser can rotate 360 degrees. Both the 2" focuser and the included 1.25" adapter have compression fittings. Light weight (OTA, tube rings & mounting plate weigh 6.2 lbs). Nice metal lens cap. Good fit & finish. Cons: Scope arrived with focuser out of adjustment. No included storage case (but third party cases are available). No included instruction manual, user manual or warranty card. Some slight CA, but this is not unusual on a short focal length ED doublet design.

This ED scope is outstanding!
Purchased this scope because I figured with the Ohara FPL51 ED optics it should be half way decent but was really surprised with it performance vs price ratio. I owned way too many scopes in the past 30 years but wanted a decent ED refractor with a good built quality and a focuser that would not slip with a big load on the back of it. This scope delivers and the built quality is excellent, it reminds me of the Willian Yang scope I have owned in the past. Focuser is excellent, smooth and precise plus no slippage like some crayford focuser I have owned. The rings are sturdy and I cannot knock anything about this scope. Now for how it works under the stars cause that is were the rubber meets the road and it sure does. Star test is like a two element 102mm objective with an ED element, it has a little bit of color on one side of focus and none on the other side but you can detect concentric diffraction rings that are a perfect circle but at focus there is NO CA, NO FALSE COLOR at all even when looking at the brighter planets and the moon. I have had this scope out on a good steady night and when seeing allows it does stupid higher powers like 275X but I have no other eyepiece/barlow combo that will go higher but the image is still sharp just get slightly dimmer but it takes power well. At F7 its just fast enough to get some really nice views of the brighter DSO's plus does a great job at splitting doubles but it works great on planetary and lunar. Years ago a scope with this type of performance would cost way over a Kilowbuck so this is an excellent value. I also like the fact if there was something wrong with the scope they would either refund your payment or replace the scope, many retailers would leave you out to dry if there were optical issues. Yes I am pleased and I would like to see them come out with a larger ED scope in the future.

Nice Scope for a Good Price
This is a very nice scope, especially for its price point. I've taken some lovely images using this scope. From the start, I've used the focal reducer and found I could never get round stars to the corners; it doesn't give a very flat image. This scope is undoubtedly a good buy and perfect for getting into "serious" astrophotography. **Pros:** - Well built - Allows for very nice images with some post-processing. - The dew shield is retractable, which makes it easier to move around. - It looks really nice! - Sold at an excellent price, especially considering its good quality. - The tube rings are moveable and have a built-in handle. - Many more cool features! Love this unit. **Cons:** - I couldn't get round stars to the corners, but post-processing can overcome this. This is a really nice scope. You can get high-quality images at a relatively budget price. I liked it enough I bought the 70ED as well. I would not hesitate to recommend this scope. Like almost anything in astrophotography, you'll want to upgrade to a more flat field scope at some point.

Great scope for anyone
I’ve been engaged in astrophotography for over five years and needed to upgrade from my beginner-level equipment. My current scope is excellent for any amateur astronomer. Svbony makes excellent refractors, and this doublet was a wise investment! I believe this scope is suitable for beginners, novice amateur astronomers, and even professional astronomers. Clear skies!

Heavenly Experience
After waiting for almost a fortnight to trial my scope, there was a break in the skies (for less than an hour) and I was able to take it out for its first viewing. In a nutshell I was extremely anxious to see how things would appear through the scope particularly because I had just sold my Stellarvue Access 80 Super ED. First let me start with the accessories I used. All were Svbony products with the exception of one Stellarvue 20mm. SVBONY SV118 Barlow Lens 2X SVBONY red line 68 Degree Ultra Wide Angle eyepieces -- 6 mm and 9mm SVBONY 1.25 inches 90 Degree Zenith Mirror Diagonal So excluding the Stellarvue, we are not dealing with high or even medium end accessories. The Svbony EPs are selling in the mid $30 range. Many owners of the Svbony scope raved about its quality and I certainly concur with them in all regards about the scope – quality of build, smoothness of focuser and fine optics. I actually could not discern any material difference in my viewing last night between the two telescopes. I tried to view Jupiter but it was playing hide and seek among the redwoods so I just used the Moon as my viewing target. It was at a Waxing Gibbous around 80 %. The views at magnifications ranging from 28X to 187X. All were crystal clear, clean views even at 187X. I was quite surprised by that. I did not see any CA either. So in a nutshell this is a great scope at a great price. Perhaps with better eyepieces I would have noticed a difference in the views between the two scopes but with what I own I could not detect any. In reading the literature on the 3 Svbony EDs only the 80ED mentions that it is designed with one SPL-51 ED Glass and one Lanthanide glass. The two photos are the scope on a Celestron Omni Alt-Az mount and a Celestron StarSense Explorer mount. Both mounts easily accommodated the Svbony 80 ED This was a very happy experience last night and for those contemplating this scope I highly recommend it.

Another excellent product from SVBONY. ED80 with FPL51 glass.
I wanted to purchase a travel telescope and was looking for a very good telescope since my main telescope is an Orion ED80 with FPL 53 glass. I love my Orion ED80 and didn’t want to lug it around and cause any damage to it. Enter SVBONY ED80 with FPL51 glass. My jaw dropped when I viewed the moon with a SVBONY 7-21 zoom eyepiece. There was ZERO difference between this scope and my Orion ED 80 with FPL 53 glass. I am not kidding. It amazes me to see how SVBONY can deliver such an amazing scope at this price point. I will go one step further and state that the focuser on the SVBONY is much smoother and easier to reach focus. As and added bonus, it came with the mounting rings too. This telescope amazes me and I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a workhorse of a telescope with excellent image quality. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Get them while they are still available. I ordered a High quality Binoviewer and just can’t wait for it to arrive to pair it with this telescope for planetary and brighter DSO viewing. Clear Skies.
