The Very Best of James Galway: Flute Transcriptions (Artist Transcriptions: Flute)

I'll Never Sound Like Galway but I Can Dream, Can't I
If you're a mediocre intermediate flutist like me and you want to sound like the inimitable Galway, get this almost all-inclusive songbook. (Emphasis on the "sound LIKE," because nobody can reproduce his beautiful tone.) A few notable pieces are missing--I would've included "Unbreak My Heart," for example. But you can't have it all ... Anyway, this is great practice, as it includes the classics (from hard to really hard) and the modern tunes (from easy to a bit more challenging).Hint: Buy the CD of the same name as an accompaniment. That way, you're forced to play up to speed and you get the added benefit of sounding like you have a full orchestra behind you. You will have to supply your own applause.

Excellent Collection for Flute Pieces
Great pieces for a recital or other performance.

NO PIANO ACCOMPANIMENT FOR THIS BOOK
I was thrilled to find transcriptions of some of the pieces that were missing from my library. However, I had wrongly assumed that piano accompaniments were included; the book is fairly useless without them and there is no accompaniment book available. As an avid fan of Sir James Galway, any of his transcriptions are a delight, but shame on Hal Leonard for recompiling previously published works. Also included is the Chaminade Concertino edited by Louis Moyse--who doesn't own THAT? Unless you want to play along with the CD's in your collection and have your own private practice session, save your money.

Good but can't find piano parts
The arrangements in the book seem to be fabulous. However, the book does not include the piano accompaniments and does not tell you where you can purchase them. I still have not been able to find them.

No accompaniment available!!!
There is not an accompaniment part that goes with this. It is claimed to be solo flute music, but has large gaps of rests in almost every song, which indicates there should be an accompaniment part. I searched high/low and it appears James Galway and Hal Leonard thought it would be cute to publish ONLY a flute part.

No piano accompaniment
Thought I was getting a transcription of the recorded flute and piano music. I needed Ashokan Farewell. I’m out of luck.

Scores three stars - but no piano score.
This is, of course, the flute score relating to 'The very best of James Galway' CD. Unfortunately there is no music for an accompanist so you either play alone (tapping your foot through the long rests), play along with the CD or seek out a piano part for the pieces you choose. Scores three stars for its interest to flautists and its clear presentation but loses two stars for limited playability.
