🔧 Slice through the competition with precision!
The Gardner Bender CR-100 4-Inch Romex Cable Ripper is a compact and efficient tool designed to slit the outer covering of non-metallic sheathed cables. With a nickel-plated finish for corrosion resistance and an etched wire gauge for quick reference, this tool is perfect for both professional electricians and DIY enthusiasts alike.

If you are using Romex house wire, you definitely need this.
Some people don't seem to realize that romex wire needs to be stripped when it enters an outlet/switch box? The wire should be approximately the length + the width of the box. The Romex cable ripper is the ideal tool for stripping off the outer sheathing. Sure, you can use a knife, but you will need electricians tape to cover the nicks in insulation.

Old time tool.
Old time tool from the 60’s and still working today. Other devices work better but this one is still dependable.

Very dull. Use a file to bring to life.
Very blunt cutter. This type of stripper is designed to rip through the Romex jacket but the blade on this is so blunt it just snags it. I ended up taking a file and sharpening it. Works much better now.

Not impressed.
I tried it but it bent in and was hard to get it to puncture the Romex wire , wet back to the old utility knife and got the job done faster.

A good tool, but only for reasonably new type NM, not for cables installed 30 years ago
This tool is great for new cable, though I decided to sharpen it a bit with a jeweler's file to make the job a little easier. However, despite the claim that it works on "both old and new" cables, it simply won't work on the original 30 year old NM cable in my house; the outer jacket has become very tough and the blade only scratches the surface. I ended up using a Corona RP 3230 Ratchet Pruner, 3/4-Inch Cut to split the old cable, which required some care but was very effective. What I do like about this tool is safety. The blade is positioned so that it is not exposed in normal use, and it very efficiently splits the outer jacket of the NM. It is far more difficult and hazardous to use a knife for the purpose. The ratchet pruner is also safe, but more care is required not to damage the conductors.

Doesn’t cut straight
I was tired of using my knife so I thought this would be safer and faster but it turns out it’s not. Back to the knife again

DYIrs should have one in their tool kit or tool drawer
Had one of these in my tool bix for years it may have been old school for electrical work but they are reliable and easy to use, This purchase was made to replace the one I lent out and got misplaced and the others are for my nephews whom both are now electricians and I thought it would be nice for them to have in their work bag when out and about on work projects

Great value
Great tool for the price, only $3 as an add on item. I did need to file a better edge on the cutter.
