I love it!!
The book is very nice and good to me, the words are understandable and clear, the only thing that I noticed is the "we were liars" title on the book was purple, but that didnt bothered me ofcourse, other than that it's a good book with a twist ending!

Review from Amy's Bookshelf
The blurb for this book sounded extremely interesting and made me immediately want to read it. The protagonist in the novel is Cadence Sinclair, a teenager who appears to have a wealthy family, although her mother and father had a messy divorce and as a result, she does not feel completely satisfied with her life. In terms of a synopsis, I’m still not entirely sure what happened myself, so it’s best if I don’t attempt to give you one. Lockhart provided an interesting insight from the perspective of a complicated, strange and slightly confused character, with an underlying element of insanity that I could not pinpoint until the end.Although the story was at first intriguing, I found that I quickly became bored of the storyline and uninterested in what was happening due to the repetitiveness of the plot. The actual storyline in We Were Liars didn’t make a lot of sense and I found that overall it was missing the progression of a grounded and coherent plot line. While Lockhart’s writing was emotive and colourful, the story was overall underwhelming, monotonous and dull. While I did enjoy the little ‘fairytales’ about the King and Princesses that Lockhart threw in randomly throughout the book, and found that the symmetry between them and the actual story made for an interesting deduction for the audience to ‘read between the lines,’ which was where my enthusiasm for this book ended. On a more positive note, the twist at the end of this novel was shocking, heart-breaking and absolutely unpredictable. I had no idea that Lockhart would choose to do what she did, and thought that this choice did allow for some sense of normality and understanding in the book. There were a lot of intricate character relationships portrayed, involving love, trust (or a lack of it) and a strong and resilient family bond, that would not be broken no matter how much they seemed to be falling apart. Cadence’s ‘madness’ was a point of interest in the book; Lockhart managed to subtly use moments such as the endless pills she was taking and her desire to own nothing material to successfully portray this. However I think if she wanted to make this emotive or profound she would need to emphasise the ‘madness’ even more. One character who I found intriguing was Gat. He was the obvious choice for Cadence, but I never felt satisfied with the relationship between Cadence and Gat. I enjoyed their love for each other, and thought that Cadence’s lust for someone she could not have would be very relatable for a lot of readers. However I found that Gat’s hostility towards her was frustrating and would have preferred if Lockhart kept to a more ‘Romeo and Juliet’ storyline, keeping their forbidden love alive. In the end I think if I were to describe the book in one word it would be messy.

Unique and great plot twist
I feel like this is one of those books where some will love it, and for others, it’s not for them. However, I greatly enjoyed this book because it was different to what I’ve normally read before. The narration comes from Cadence, a girl from the Sinclair family. Her unique, complex and author-like way of expressing her thoughts is so interesting to read, and can take a bit of getting used to. She comes from a family that rides on success and keeping their heads up high. When something goes wrong, they brush it under the rug and keep going forwards. Cadence talks about summers she spends on her Grandfather’s island and the connections she builds with friends and family. Cadence gets into a severe accident and doesn’t remember one of the summers in great detail, and a lot of the plot is her trying to figure out what actually happened. The book’s best part is definitely its ending. Personally, it shocked me as I wasn’t expecting it. Once you find out what really happens it changes your perspective on what you’ve just read completely, and it makes you want to read the whole book again. Things you read earlier in the book that didn’t make a whole lot of sense, suddenly come into clear picture.I thoroughly enjoyed this book, I thought it was imaginative with a great twist, and had a unique voice in the writing. I recommend it to anyone that’s interested!

Fell flat
I bought this as a holiday read and have to say I was disappointed and also very surprised at these mainly amazing reviews which rather frustratingly, helped sway me into buying this book!I did preserve till the end as I knew there would be a dramatic final act that I didn’t want to feel like I'd wasted my time in reading some of the book, not to discover. The end is quite a shock but unfortunately, it took this in the final chapter to actually draw any real interest from me. It is beautifully written and does evoke some lovely images/scenes/dialogue from the characters and the story.I guess firstly my main issue was a bunch of privileged, quite irritating teenagers and their even more annoying family–I found almost too much effort to try and get back into this very specific, upper class, well off, teenage head space (which is the viewpoint the book is written from) and have much empathy for. The situation on the island an feel very claustrophobic and to be honest, dull at times and the majority of the book is written here. I kept reading for some lovely dialogue in some conversations as well as lovely descriptions of meals they ate, which I found inspiring for my own holiday dishes! However the characters and feel of the book felt flat to me – the overall feel is pretty bleak and depressing, and I did feel regret at having bought this as 1 of my main holiday reads and was happy to get onto my next novel.

I don't understand all of the hate for this book!!!
This was the first book I really read that got me into reading again. I thought it was unique and I really loved how short the chapters were as it aided to a better reading experience as I was able to follow along easier and couldn't get lost. This is my favourite book by E. Lockhart as I think the concept is unique and the writing is spectacular.Despite guessing the plot twist mid-way through, it didn't take away from my overall reading experience as I felt excited to carry on and see if I was right.Due to some of the upsetting natures in this book, I'd recommend this book for teens 15+ as I think they'd be able to understand the meanings more.

Really good
We Were Liars is the haunting story of Cadence Sinclair and the legacy of the Sinclair family. The Sinclair’s go to their private island every summer but when an accident happens, Cadence is deeply affected by it. She can’t think about it, and others refuse to talk to her about it. She has been told by the doctors that it is best to let the memories come back slowly. After a trauma of this magnitude she needs to figure it out herself. Cadence is medicated and struggles day to day but being on the island makes her more determined to figure out the truth and slowly but surely the events of the past come stumbling back to her.We Were Liars is a brilliantly written novel. It is intriguing and can genuinely be described as a real page turner. Lockhart has created an eery atmosphere which is perfect for the unraveling of this mystery. The isolation of the island reflects the isolation of Cadence Sinclair and you are desperate for her to figure this mystery out. As a reader, you are filled with the feeling of mystery and intrigue and this book will keep you on edge until the very end.We Were Liars by E. Lockhart is available now.
