Is the back side of the tube solid black or does it have the tire print? Looking for solid black pool tubes.

It is not solid black on the backside. Both sides have the same design.

Do you have to poke a hole where the air goes in? Doesn't seem like enough air gets through if you don't.

No, you don’t need to poke a hole. Just squeeze that plastic valve piece while you are blowing in, & it’ll allow more air in, or you can use a manual air pump.

Are these durable enough to work for river tubing?

While my grandkids roughhoused in the river with these tubes, they stayed in one place. But I don’t think I would trust them as a river tube. They are a regular nice size tube but if they met up with a sharp rock, I think the rock would win.
