Super cool handy little tool
I bought this for future DIY and art projects. Saw a video of one randomly online and it looked so cool I had to get one. My wife does lots of art and crafts and DIY and she loves tools. She and I installed vinyl plank flooring ourselves about a year ago, and one of these would have made things so much easier than making paper templates with tape.We tested it out on a curved surface to see how it does. Never used one before, so here's what we learned:•You may have to manually push a few of the pins directly near the ends of the thing you are trying to replicate. So for us, we had to push the one or two pins on the very top and very bottom in order to get the most accurate shape possible•When you trace it with a pencil, you will get a stair-step zig zag pattern at first, so you need to smooth out the lines (see photos 2 & 3)•Don't forget to mark the end points so you get the depth correct (we forgot to do that and cut our test paper too short; see last photo)Last photo shows result of using this gauge to make a paper template out of cardstock paper. It got the curve pretty dead-on. We are impressed and glad we got this gadget. Also the locking mechanism works well. You have to push the pins pretty hard to get them to move if the thing is locked so this is good.

Great Combo
I wish I had this when I was cutting some trim to run along the baseboard trim, it would have saved me so much time. Easy to use, just press up against whatever you're trying to trace. Some people say that it's too stiff to move, but I don't really think so. Nice variation in sizes as well.I would buy again.

Nice!
I bought this 10' contour gauge for my husband and he loves it! It works great and he will use it for our home improvement projects.

Not deep enough
It is misleading to label this a 10 inch tool as that is the width. What matters is the depth. In my experience, the depth is the far more important feature on a tool like this. this one’s useable depth is maybe 3 inches (have not measured it). For me, that is rarely deep enough to fully outline the cut needed and when that happens, it’s fairly useless. Not recommending people not buy a tool like this, just be certain it is deep enough for the types of projects you anticipate.

Over Time - A Somewhat Useless Tool
I gave this 4 stars when I first used it, because it helped me do a transfer. Since then, I find the tool mainly useless.Because of protrusions at both ends, it can really only be used laying flat on the ground. Since most of my transfers (baseboard for example) require a vertical application, I can't use the tool without extra calculations and effort, which is the very thing this tool is supposed to help with.Beyond that, I find the level of detail in a transfer to sometimes be inadequate. I often will take photos or make hand drawings and use those instead. There is little that is "precise" about this tool.

Perfect for tile or flooring
The good:10 inches - Super big! Can do large sections at once without havingEasy locking tab - stays in place, doesn't budge much to make tracing easyOrange - my favorite colorCons:Lines - Like almost all of these products when you trace, the lines aren't really smooth but it doesn't matter much once you start cutting because the blade evens it outPlastic - metal would be nice but would also cost moreFinal thoughts:The size of it for the price is pretty excellent, especially if you're doing tile or flooring in general because making templates out of paper takes forever and this just speeds the entire project up.

Good
Product worked pretty well for me. The lines are pretty jagged but I don’t think that hurts your accuracy. I needed the tool on the 21st ordered it on the 14 th it actually took one day shy of a month to get here. Don’t order from this seller. I never want to wait that long for a product.

A solid tool to assist, but still needs careful hand
It makes the job easier, for sure. The pins are thin enough to give you a good measure of recesses and notches in doorframes, and the locking mechanism is pretty firm. However the lock could be improved. When it is applied, it compresses the pins together and there is some flexion. So it distorts to a minor degree and you lose some preciseness. It is certainly still a very useful tool and this wouldn't put me off buying again.

Great quality for the price.
I like this gauge. I reviewed contour gauges offered in the big box stores before checking out Amazon. Many reviews had complaints about inherent issues with gauges made with metal pins mainly that the pins fell out or bent. Other gauges couldn't be locked to hold the pins while scribing the shape onto a piece of wood. These units were all much cheaper than the Saker model but clearly not worth buying. I read reviews about the Saker gauge and decided the price point was worth it. I received the Saker gauge the following day after ordering it. I tried it out a few times and found it to be quite good. The pins are plastic but seem quite substantial and take the shape of the contour needed quite easily. I was also impressed with the greeting from the manufacturer (photo included).I look forward to many years of use from this gauge.
