The Shoes Come First: A Jennifer Cloud Novel, Book 1

My friend recommend this book. I certainly enjoyed it more than I thought I would. it is what I would call summer reading but with all the twists within a family tree make it more interesting than that. I read to be entertained not to have my conscious raised. This book held my interest. Now on to read the next book by Janet Leigh!!

I got this book for free after seeing it on one of my free book alerts. I did not the author or the series but decided to try it. I love time travel books and this one did not disappoint. Jennifer Cloud inherits a strange necklace from her Great Aunt and by accident figures out that she can time travel. In this book she travels back to year of our Lord 1568 and then 1915. Prior to learning that she can time travel, Jennifer is sort of lost regarding her purpose and when she learns she has "the gift"; she also finds her purpose. I love the characters in the book (especially Gertie and Ace) and I would want to read further in the series to see what else happens.

The Shoes Come First by Janet Leigh was a very good book and definitely one that I will keep reading the series. The characters were all very different but also worked very well together in this book. I know normally I don’t like historic books but this one is definitely one of my favorite time travel books. It’s different from Mr. Heldt’s books and it’s very interesting to read.This book is the first book in a series and we are just getting introduced to this world and the characters. That I have a feeling we will meet more interesting characters in the future books especially since these characters felt so strongly about Jennifer Cloud being there. There isn’t much to really say about this book without spoiling it but I have to say that Ms. Leigh definitely has me hooked on this series.I am giving this book a five-star review since it’s that good and I will recommend this book to everyone, especially those who liek time travel. I'm not sure if I misunderstood what was happening in this book, but it seemed to have a teen girl travel through time, then have sex hours later with a random stranger. I'm uncomfortable with this as a message for today's youth. I stopped reading at this point. Purchased the Kindle version.

This is a great comedy book, with a good deal of sex thrown in for added fun. I thoroughly enjoyed the book and I'm sure the next book will be even better.

Jennifer is living a good life on Texas. True she’s not sure what to make of her life, but she does know that she loves shoes and shopping if she can make a career of that, she’ll count herself as a success. In the midst of all this, she finds out that not only did her Aunt provide her with a gift that was sent to her in death, but she also learns that she has the ability to time travel.If that is not crazy enough, 3 men that she has had relations with are also involved in the time travel business. Yeah, not sure how she manages that but it makes for some funny first interactions.Either way, this was an exciting story with a lot of intrigue and fun to keep you invested. I’m not sure I’ll keep on with the series, but I truly enjoyed this light read.

This book provided more chuckles than any other I have read in quite awhile. Although I found the story a bit confusing at the beginning, it became clearer and was thoroughly enjoyable. The characters were very well defined and were all likeable -- and, in fact, were truly characters! I highly recommend this book to anyone into 'time travel', romance, and something completely different from the normal 'time travel' books. It is totally unique and totally fun! Now, I am off to buy the second book hoping to come across the same main characters.

When oh when will I stop being lured into buying a book just because the name of Queen Janet (Evanonovich) is bandied about in the description??? The first few chapters were confusing. The author attempted introducing too many characters in a disjointed fashion. I'm a Texan, so the location kept me going. I did finish the book, but I skimmed the last 75%. Still not sure it was worth the time. Def not worth the money.

This was free on Kindle and when i read the gumph to see if i want to download the free ones i rarely read past the first 3 lines. so basically i missed the bit about it involving time travel. Generally if i'd seem that i wouldn't have bothered.Yes it is about a woman who inherits a time travelling toilet (!!!) from her aunt, which she uses to travel back in time to rescue her cousin(with the help of a race car driver(unimaginatively called Ferarri), drag queen and some secret branch of the CIA). I have to say that the picture on the cover in no ways corresponds to what the book is about,neither does the title. Would I read another in the series? probably not, but i didn't find it as bad as some of the other free kindle reads. It was harmless, if a little silly

An interesting concept, fantasy woven with real history to create a fascinating story of time travel.Where will Jennifer Cloud travel to next? Looking forward to her next adventure

I enjoyed meeting the characters in this romp through history. A fun read.

Couldn't agree more! The story got really crazy but made me laugh. Great fun diversion from daily routine or stress. Just don't expect anything serious and you're in for a good time! Shoes or bare feet!

Sorry to say this is not my kind of book but I'm sure a younger person would enjoy it

A very surprising story, time travel, mystery and love, very enjoyable even some nice shoes, recommend this to everyone who loves a gripping book

An exciting tale of time travel with a new twist on history. Jennifer Cloud certainly lives an exciting life. Excellent plot and well written.

I thought this would be a girly book, but to my pleasure, was to anyone's liking. Action and adventure, travel and some girly stuff, But generally a great read. Just about to start book 2
