Not wide enough for a "wheelie"
It was not wide enough for the pup's wheelie. Her back legs don't work in her old age and I have not been able to find even one ramp wide enough. Suggest making a version wide enough for dogs in wheelchairs (wheelies). Thanks

A great help
I got this for my 70lb. Lab mix. She blew out both back knees and had surgery on one. Didn’t want her to be jumping up in back of my SUV. A great help getting her in since I can’t pick her up. My only concern is it is a little slippery.

Back Saver for You...Joint Saver for Your Pups!
Initially, I purchased this ramp for our late, elderly, yellow lab, who subsequently, refused to use it. I believe it was just due to old age, and a lack of coordination and exposure to a ramp [in general] that kept her from using it, but we kept it in storage until we got our new Saint Bernard puppies a few years later. From the time they were 8 weeks old, we began exposing our two boys to the ramp by leaving it flat on the floor in their play area, allowing them to walk on it, play on it, sleep on it, etc., without the fear of falling off of it. Eventually, as they got older, we began taking them for car rides more and more, and that's when we started using it in an elevated position. After having labs with joint problems, we wanted to start early with our giant breed dogs, protecting them from repeated impacts, jumping in and out of the truck, so from day one, we discouraged them from jumping out of the truck, and instead would direct them up and down the ramp. When the boys went through their "fear period", they became frightened of the ramp, and getting them to use it was a bit of a chore, but eventually their irrational fears passed, and with a bit of encouragement (and a bunch of puppy cookies), they outgrew their hesitations! Now, they're going on 9 months old, they're well over 100 pounds, and they actually expect their ramp to assist them in and out of our Suburban! With consistent training, we trained the boys "wait" at the back of the truck until it is set up, then they go up individually and turn towards us once they're in to have their leash taken off, then they back up and sit down to have the hatch closed. Once we're at our destination, they are trained to "wait" at the tail of the truck, get their leashes put on, and then they exit the truck one at a time. One thing that is tricky is, putting the ramp up with one hand free; you will look much more graceful if you have an extra hand, or set it up prior to bringing the pups into the picture. When we're going somewhere alone, and we have both boys on leash, we set up the ramp before we bring them outside, so they can go right from the garage, up into the truck. Then when you arrive, set the ramp up before opening the truck, and you won't have to wrestle with it so much. The ramp itself is very sturdy; it's soundly made, and we've not had any problems with it warping or rocking when the boys use it. The lip at the top sits flush on the bumper of the truck, and the bottom lip sits nicely on the ground. The sandpaper tread on the ramp itself is great to help the pups feel secure, and it makes us feel much better, knowing that they're not going to slip going up and down. The only things missing from the ramp are a fastener or clamping system for the vehicle (which we used a bag of dog food to keep ours propped up in the hatch of the truck on our way to the beach), a little bit more of a "lip" to each end (always make sure to put a foot at the bottom of the ramp, to keep it from "kicking out" when they go up and down), and some sort of handles on the sides to telescope the ramp itself with a second person (when you each only have one hand to help).Overall, this is a fantastic ramp to save your pups joints, and I highly recommend the investment!

Good product, rough surface
This ramp is great for my Bernese Mountain Dogs. I was worried they will hurt themselves jumping into my 4Runner SUV as sometimes my females busts it and eats dirt/the back of the car. I formerly had a pet step that attached into my hitch, but someone backed into my car and it cracked. Daisie wouldn't really use the step anyway - she tried to jump around it. They were able to figure out the ramp on the 2nd try (after they both tried to dodge the ramp and I to jump in themselves). I'm pretty sure Daisie really likes it now. Really! My advice is to make your dogs go VERY VERY VERY slow up the ramp. Both dogs slipped off the side once, and their legs buckled when they went too fast. Make sure you take the time to train them to use it and positively reward them for going up and down the ramp. After the very first use, the black-rough textured ramp had deep white nail marks on it from my dogs as they slipped or tried to get their step. I don't mind how it looks, as long as they use it and protect their hips/knees from jumping. It definitely held Daisie (85lbs) with no give. Bentley (120lbs) had a slight bend, but not overly concerning. I first had the ramp up to the level of my trunk, but then reduced it to sit on the bumper and this 3" decrease helped the slope of the ramp tremendously. I DO NOT recommend this for a higher vehicle or one with big tires... it's a steep slope for your dogs then.It does not fit into the trunk of my 4Runner as it's about 6" too long. I either fold a seat down or put it across the backseat. It's a little awkward, but I transport my dogs more than I do people in the backseat, so it works for me.I'm 5'2" and it took good effort to undo the ramp to it's full extension. The "grip handles" it features having are not really handles... but rather the side of the silver part of the ramp extends over a few inches so that you can grip it there. I guess it's easier that way so you can grab it on any part of the ramp... but I was a little confused when I was looking for the "handles."

Sturdy, but low portability
The media could not be loaded. Big breed dogs should always use ramps- it helps prevent long term joint issues. This ramp is really sturdy and works for us, but it is definitely bulky and takes up space if storing in the car. It can also be slippery at times. The grips under the ramp that rest on the car use a poor adhesive so they have fallen out, but it still works.Pros:- easy to use- sturdy as duck- easy to condition dog to use itCons- heavy- can be slippery if weather is a little wet- high cost- low portabilityI have purchased 2 of these, but would not recommend as I'm sure a better options exists at this point. I bought 1 and then because my dog got used to it, I bought another for convenience instead of reconditioning my pup to a different ramp.I would give it 3.5 stars if I could.
