Canon Powershot G11: The Expanded Guide

Canlon G11
I am not a pro and have just moderate knowledge of cameras. I have had three late model cameras. For beginer or some pros this is one great camera. It is not as small as some may want as it want fit in your shirt pocket but it will fit in you coat pocket. For me the viewfinder was a must. It is actually large enough to view through and on a sunny day you can see what you are shooting. The adjustable screen makes it easy to shoot at awkward angles. It has a diaopter so I can adjust it for my glasses or eyes and never do it again. Put it on Automatic Mode and it will make super pictures. If you are a camera bug you can set your own settings. Every thing I read gives this camera 5 stars. Add me to that list. It is not large or is it real small so you can actually get a grip on it.

GREAT FOR A POINT-AND-SHOOT GUY WITH DELLUSIONS OF GRANDEUR
. . . The Canon G11 does it all, automatically, all by itself fuss-free. But for pros and semi-pros, it can really give top-drawer photographers every option there is for pro-quality pictures. Or movies. It includes smooth functioning and huge versatility. Canon PowerShot G11 10MP Digital Camera with 5x Wide Angle Optical Stabilized Zoom and 2.8-inch articulating LCD Then there's the instruction manual; how-to-use manuals seem to be the only tech area where the brilliant Japanese don't excel. So this 'Enhanced Guide' is a godsend. Clear, comprehensive, eminently accessible, it's readable, logical; well, for me, perfect. Even a coated mini-version is included one can slip into a camera case. As I'm so-very photographically-challenged I was very careful to survey the field. This version seemedfar ahead of the others, and by golly, it actually is (a friend has another version; he scanned/printed pagesof Stansfield's edition. Enough said?). rclarknv

Invaluable guide
I bought the Canon G11 as it was recommended to me as a versatile camera that I can carry around all the time, especially as I found my DSLR too bulky. My first results were truly impressive but left me wanting for more. I needed to find out how the camera works and make sure I can take full advantage of it.The manual that came with the camera is not great, but I have bought the Expanded Guide book to go with this camera. I discovered these books some while ago when I got one for a previous camera. These books are informative and easy to read, as well as being a compact format that I find easy to carry around in my camera bag.Thoroughly recommended

Some serious omissions.
THis was purchased by me so that I would be able to read directions in a bigger print then the manual that comes with camera. The manual with the camera provides a better and more detailed explaination of the camera functions. This book does not even show you what the scene symbols on camera represent. There are other omissions as well but too many to list them all. Suffice to say do not purchase this book. There are others out there that will help you more.

Not a very valuable guide
I have been a photographer for many years. Last year I sold the last of my DSLR equipment and bought a compact Panasonic so that I could be freed from carrying heavy camera gear. But I found myself wanting to use RAW file capabilities and have a viewfinder, so I bought a G11. The G11 has a plethora of capabilities and I thought that a guide such as this book would be helpful in mastering its features quickly. Unfortunately, I found this guide to be of little value. In fact, the little manual that came with my G11 had more useful information than this guide even though I have found manufacturers' camera guides to be wanting generally. I was quite disappointed and find that I am unable to recommend this guide.

Seasoned photographer never stop to learn!
This is my first book on this series, expanded my options, it is like have a new camera today (even a have it for more than a year! Want to do right? Read the instructions!, It's basic, and very often forgotten! You always will learn something new, this Expanded guide open a very clear road of information plus the reminders about basic concepts who always need to be used!

Very good value for money
Others have cited and bemoaned the fact that Canon no longer provide printed camera manuals with their cameras - indeed, one UK high street retailer was recently selling a 'reprint' of the manual on their website for almost the price of this book (BEFORE the Amazon discount!)So, clearly there is a need for a physical publication and this book provides a wealth of information in a (generally) accessible way.Pros:Handy size.Full colour.Comprehensive.Well researched - pointed out an anomaly between information in the manual and a section of Canon's website.I use it as the primary source and then refer to the manual on the CD if I think there is more information there. The section on general photography good as a general reminder.Con:A bit more context about why you would want (or need) to use certain feature or setting would be useful.Overall:If like me, you don't want to print off the full Canon manual from the CD or try and track down a printed one (often at a high price) then this is a very useful book.

Canon Powershot G11 (Expanded Guide) by Andy Stansfield
A very useful book - even if you think you know most of it already. The lack of a printed handbook with the camera is a real disadvantage but this volume more than makes up for it. The text is clear and informative, well illustrated and comprehensive. Though bigger than the A6 camera manuals we are used to, this book is small enough to carry around when you need it.

Simple to understand and full of detail
I like these books written by Andy as the lay out is well done on decent paper or 'wipe proof card' or whatever its called and this is my forth book in the series he has written on Canon products. Recommended

Good book
Nice little book.I have had the G11 for a couple of months.I had read the manual that comes with the camera, which is ok.By going back over what the camera can do and how to use it I found quite alot of extra features I had not realised were there. It would be better if there could have been some stories of tips from people who had used the camera, but otherwise excellent.

Canon Powershot G11 Expanded Guide
This guide is far superior to the guide supplied with the camera. I am now able to access far more features available on my camera
