Q: Are the brisels oriented in one direction?

It cleans in both directions if that's what you are asking.

Q: I received one today that is like a velvet feel. The material is black not red. Is there a difference? Thanks

All I can say is my records are black and the cleaner is black. If the red fabric on your cleaner is made well it should not release any color dye when cleaning your records.

Q: How do you clean the brush itself?

There's a piece of foam inside that works pretty well. Canned air also works for most things. I haven't had many problems with needing to clean it.

Q: Can you buy only the cleaner when you run out

Unfortunately, the cleaner only comes with the kit.
