I have read almost all of CL Taylors books, and I think I have rated all of them them four or five star except for one, which was ‘Strangers’. Generally, I really like her style of writing and her way of developing psychological thrillers. 'The Escape’ is divided into two parts. Part one is told from the perspective of Jo, who is a young mum who suffers from panic attacks and agoraphobia after suffering a miscarriage at 20 weeks several years previously. One night on the way to pick up her daughter from nursery, a strange woman gets into the car with Jo. This strange woman seemingly knows a lot about Jo, her husband, and her daughter. The woman, Paula, claims that Jo's husband Max has taken something that belongs to Paula and that she hurt Jo's family if she doesn't get it back. Panicking, Jo rushes to nursery to find her daughter is safe and sound. The problem is that no one seems to believe Jo. Max, Jo’s husband claims he has no idea who Paula is, and acts as if Jo is going crazy. Max dissuades Jo from going to the police or taking the incident any further. Over the coming days strange things keep happening to Jo, to the point where she doesn't know who she can trust. She doesn't feel she can trust the police, her husband, or her friends. It seems like everyone is out to get her. The second part of the book is told from the perspective of Jo and also the perspective of Mary. I'm not going to go into too much onto what happens in part two because that will spoil the story. What I did like about this book was how the book explored mental illness, particularly making me question Jo's sanity as she also questions her own sanity. You wonder, is she an unreliable narrator, or is there more to the story? In this story I hated Max. I think the husband had no idea how to support his wife or child. Some of the things he does in the story are reprehensible and unforgivable. This is not a particularly twisty and Turney book, there are a couple of surprises but I think about halfway through the book you will start to see what is coming. I think some of part two was a little bit far-fetched and wasn't fleshed out in enough detail. Particularly Max’s character, I don't think the reasons behind his actions were explored enough, and I think that made it harder to buy into the story. I think if the book was 100 pages shorter I probably would've enjoyed it a little bit more however it was quite slow especially the parts in Ireland. I think this could've been done much quicker. Overall not a bad story was just a little bit slow in the ending was under done for me will be a little bit better but not a terrible story.

I love this authors books and as soon as I heard she had another one coming out I knew I had to read it and boy am I glad I did. This is one of those stories where the main character feels unreliable. Jo I just didn't know if I trusted or not. In a way I actually felt for her husband Max. She seems to be acting all irrational and I really thought a lot of it was in her head. As the story goes on though the more I came round to Jo's train of thought. Right from the start you know that somethings not right and it was killing me having to try and find out just exactly what. I felt as demented as Jo at times and I felt almost as if I had been caught up in some wind tunnel which left me feeling rather wind swept to say the least. As a mother I so felt for Elise in this story. She is slap bang caught up in the middle of events and like Jo I just wanted to grab the little girl and take her away to somewhere safe where she would be protected from everything that was going on. Some parts really did make me cringe and at times I wanted to bang all the adults heads together in the story to make them see what they were doing. Saying that though, what a fabulous story The Escape is. The Escape is with out a doubt a heart racing read. It had me rushing through the pages as I wanted to know everything and the author certainly did not disappoint. It is very much a mix of a psychological thriller/suspense and one that satisfied all the cravings that I get from this style of book. Yet again another fabulous read and as always left me desperate for more.

Her books are so good , my friends love them .

I thought this was a bit interesting at times and felt bad for a few of the characters in this book...
