Installed this as a replacement for an identical model that had failed due to saltwater immersion. Talk about quick. Had this installed and operational in 30 minutes. It even came with a new up/down switch and a control relay which I didn't need but now have as spares. Very pleased with the sturdiness, construction, and smooth operation. Kudos to Lewmar.

I wouldn't say it was hard to install, time consuming to do it right the first time. This is my first windless, came highly recommended and the price was right.

I bought this windlass to replace an old Simpson-Lawrence windlass on my 1984 Albin 27FC trawler.Fortunately, of the five holes necessary (i.e., chain, wires, 3 mounting bolts), I was able to use three of the old ones. Unfortunately, the trawler had a 1/4 inch mounting plate inside the hull and the mounting bolts were just that much too short. Also, the paper template (for drilling holes) supplied with the windlass unit did not match the unit's configuration; the actual gasket was correct and useful for drilling the holes. I still need to complete the wiring, but this unit appears more robust and sturdier than the previous windlass.

I ordered the windlass, rope/chain all together... First time out on water stripper broke.. . I guess getting support on something you buy from Amazon is impossible...
