You Can Teach Yourself Accordion

Disappointingly lacking
Only 1 page picturing how to hold an accordion. NO description of the different types/sizes of piano accordions or identification of any of their parts. Difficult-to-understand identification of where buttons are or how to play the bass keys. NO instruction on how to activate the bellows properly. If you just want music theory and introductory pieces to play, this is the book for you. But IT WILL NOT TELL YOU HOW TO PLAY AN ACCORDION!

What I was looking for
I haven't played the accordion in fifty years and I was looking for something as a refresher. This book was just what I was looking for, it reviewed what I had forgotten and I even learned things that I had never learned in the first place. Nice selection of songs too, not a bunch of corny tunes that you never heard of. It comes with a CD and you can hear what you are expected to sound like after a little practice. I have several books on the accordion and most of them are useless but this is a real worthwhile purchase.

The Best!
Oh how I wish I had purchased this book in the beginning. Had I done so, there would have been much less frustration incurred while learning to play my new accordion. Don't look for any other book because this is the real McCoy! Super great book for any beginner. Technique of the instrument well covered, as is theory. Plus, the tunes included are interesting and not childish.

A great beginning book
I always wanted to learn to play a musical instrument- and this book has been a great help in my beginning to play one (having washed out on guitar and piano)...in fact, it makes it very easy to play songs very fast! Thanks for the great book- there is not that much accordian music written for beginners out there...

You Can Teach Yourself
The Mel Bay book takes you from a never-played-an-accordion student to understanding the basics and capable of playing numerous songs. An occasional lesson from an accordion instructor is useful. An experienced accordion teacher finds this book very suitable for instruction.

Good starter material
I bought this book in combination with some other beginner books and am teaching myself as there are no teachers within 50 mile radius. All book together keep it interesting and provide variations on each stage of learning. I am having fun with it!

Great for a beginner
An excellent book for a "not quite" beginner. Goes a little bit fast to make you think hard which is a good thing. It is not at all clear from the book how you get the audio content ?? You have to use the Download part but not use Google as a search engine. All a bit confusing but it did eventually work and proved useful.I would strongly advise anyone who is an absolute accordion beginner to first of all download the "Stradella" info from Wikipaedia and get familiar with it before going any further.Overall, Yes get this book if like me you have some musical knowledge but absolutely nix about the accordion.PS . I am an Octogenarian and sometimes things take longer to sink in - If I can do it so can anyone !!

The Best Book I have Ever Seen For Accordion!
As a trained musician, I was very impressed with this book and to those who may teach the accordion. I would say its about the best one can buy. Its very clearly laid out and very easy to follow. A 48 bass half size is all that needed apart from the last two songs. You start playing tunes almost intstantly, after a few excerices on using the bellows correctly. If you buy this book, you will need nothing else to get you to a reasonable standard on the accordion. There is also a usefull CD so you can hear how the excerises and songs should sound. This book stands out from all the rest and if you are about to take up the intrument, look no further! Worth 10 Stars. it was well packed and came by return of post from our firends at Amazon. 100% on all counts!

Simple and easy to follow
I'm new to the accordian and what is nice is that it builds up gently and is easy to go back over the first lessons.

Good fast delivery service.
A clearly put-together book. A bit on the thin side. But easily understood which is important to the complete beginner.
