Do your multiple fluorescent lights exceed the wattage capacity of the circuit? The CFCI, as its name indicates, will trip if there is a ground fault. It is not a conventional circuit breaker that trips when the watts exceed the circuit's specifications. Therefore, if there is no ground fault in the circuit, your regular circuit breaker will trip as often as it did before.

1. Yes, it has both GFCI and Surge Protection. 2. The GFCI is at the wall plug, the surge protection circuit is inside the yellow case. Since a ground fault and surge protection are two different things; I would think it's safe to assume only the problem you have is going to trip the necessary protection. I have not had any false trips or problems in over three years. 3. The cord is protected by the GFCI, since that is plugged into the outlet. The cord is not protected for surges since that circuitry is at the end of the cord in the yellow case.

Q: Is this compatible with desktop computers

We used it for plugging blacklights into. You should use a power strip with a surge protector for your computer.

Q: Can this be used for 2 commercial coffee makers that trip conventional surge protectors as soon as the water starts to heat?

It is rated at 15 Amps. So look at your coffee makers and see the Watts listed on each appliance, then add them up. If it exceeds 1800 Watts, it will trip. For example, my shopvac and circular saw together trip it.
