Made in France - Exclusive to the US | The iconic Hoquy Beret is known all over the world, made by Laulhère, a company that has been in existence since 1840. The design studio and workshops are all located within the foothills of the French Pyrenees, the very last of the producers of the beret in Oloron-Ste-Marie. The origin of the "Basque" beret is actually from the Bearn Shepherds of the same name, Bearn. They first hand knit the beret and then felted the wool in mountain waters to create a hat that protects against the sun and harsh winters. Basque became the more popular term when Napoleon III, noticed it upon the laborers working on his Palais de Biarritz. | The quality of the workmanship is evident in this simple but elegant beret. The merino wool is soft but durable and water resistant. The luxe foulard finish to the wool is a characteristic unique only to Laulhère's luxe line of Basque berets, including the Hoquy.
