Fabulous Read
I read Graham's first 2 novels last year and absolutely loved them, so was very excited when his 3rd novel was released and I have to say, he really didn't disappoint. What an amazing writer. I love that his stories are based in Ireland, they are so relatable.Though this story is fiction, every part of it is brought to life by the very real descriptions and I know that every reader can relate to some part of the story, as I did.Overall it was sad, funny, happy and many other emotions that I experienced over the past week while reading. I feel almost like I'm grieving now that its finished, it's going to be a hard read to follow.I'm really looking forward to your next novel Graham, hopefully I won't have to wait to long.Thank you for this wonderful book.Jeanne

An interesting plot - reflects on Irish cultural restraints in early19th century.
Very easy to see why this book is so widely acclaimed. A really good book if you are looking for something a little lighter. Certainly well written and the plot is a true narrative of those times - thank goodness as a society we have moved in the direction of allowing people live lives true to their nature.

Inspiring and heartwarming
A wonderful story of how gay people felt and were treated in the late eighties. The journey of a boy caught in an untenable sitution: take the blame or be outed. What a horrible choice for anyone to have to make. This book explains his journey through 20 or so years. Great read!

Engaging and absorbing
I was surprised and delighted to enjoy this family saga set in rural Ireland so much. The tension holds with twists, turns and reveals, and wry, often witty observations read well and ring true. I was reminded of Maeve Binchy and her acute ability to capture the Irish ways and characters, and I can think of no higher recommendation

Great Story
It was a great story! Well written but it was longer than it needed to be. I wanted to give up several times except the story being told needed to have an ending for me.

Graham Norton is a novelist, who knew?
My favorite interviewer is a novelist. What a wonderful surprise. I had to give him a try. I was not disappointed. After getting hooked by the story,I took the rest of the day off and indulged. I have since ordered a second novel. Thanks Graham.

A fantastic insight into pre and post gay acceptance in Ireland
A truthful insightful venture into, I'm sure, the lives of many gay men growing up in Ireland before the acceptance of GLBT people. It's a real page turner, waiting to see how Connors life turns out and the number of twists as the real truth unfolds

Family Life changing over the years
Family life is never straightforward but half the time we don’t realise what is happening. Well written and ever changing.

A wonderful read
I loved the writing style. It draws you in from the first line. So unpretentious and inclusive. I couldn’t put the book down and will purchase the others he has written.

My first book by Graham Norton and I'm so glad I've read it!
I started reading this book and found it was a nice reading from the begining, but at first it didn't strike me as something special. But as the story develops, I saw myself so emotionally involved with the different people affected by what happened and how their life was unfolding... brilliantly written, touching, rings true in so many levels! This was my first novel by Graham Norton and I'm so glad I've read it!

Not my fave
Absolutely adored the first two books but could not go past half of this one. Marvellous writing as per usual, but I just did not feel compelled by the characters at all, and the alleged twists and turns were a bit too predictable for my taste.
