These are great value and they only smell a little of vegetable oil they light easily and burn for enough time to get a log fire started, I don't burn coal or other smokeless fuel so not sure how effective they would be with those fuels. If you used some kindling they will certainly work, on there own you might need to use two or three to get the fire started. Will definitely be buying these again.

We use these for our wood burner. They are good, scent free! They are not as good as the white fire lighters but a bonus that there is no scent.
