The picture of the bed shows that each side raises up, but, you must have the base mechanism to raise the bed. The base mechanism doesn't come with this item. This picture makes it confusing or even deceptive. I ordered the bed with the idea of getting the lift mechanism. This bed will work with the base mechanism but you must buy it separately.
