Awesome... just don't do what we did!
Bought this as a gift, was fiddly to put together but once it was the children loved It, although.... warning here if you don't want your kids to be traumatised by carnage.... COLLECT THE ANTS FROM THE SAME COLONY! A lesson learnt here after what we witnessed to be an ant version of game of thrones! It wasn't pretty, there were heads flying off all over the place, and little bodies laying still whilst being trampled on.. it was an event we will relive forever !After we buried the ants... yes, you read it right.. BURIED THE ANTS.. (this is what my life has come to) we started again.. 8 ants taken from 1 COLONY (sorry queen but they work for us now) it was all good, we haven't witnessed any tunnels yet but they're transporting dirt and food from one side of the tank to the other... which is quite mesmerising to watch! All in all a great buy.

ants are hard to catch and put in to the tank so suggest buying them instead.
When my daughter asked for ant farm for her birthday the last thing i imagined was it to be fun or interesting but this is awesome literally intriguing and can watch them for ages they are more interesting how they clean themselves everything im more intersted in this than my daughter. I would totally reccomend this ant farm i added photos that show day 1 upto day 20 and the changes the ants made. Am now thinking of getting one of the other kits from the range.

Great for little nature lovers
Absolutely brilliant. I bought this for my 8 year old daughter and we put it together exactly as the instructions said (mixing sand and dirt), we sent off for the ants, which arrived within four days, and within just a few days have started seeing tunnels appearing. Everything you need is supplied and I’ve since bought this as a present for someone else as it’s that good.

The ant world is great and comes with a helpful instruction book
We've now got 2, one with a colony of Fire Ants and their Queen Phoenix, who are successfully breeding in the first Ant World, the second now has Queen Ebony, a black ant queen, for whom we need to find a colony of black ants. My 11 year old son keeps them on the table and is transfixed at every meal time. The ant world is great and comes with a helpful instruction book. Very educational and also makes them much more observant about the world around them.

Love my ant world - patience is key!!!
If you think you are going to buy this and magically have a thriving colony then you are mistaken. Ant keeping requires some pre-thought and planning but ultimately is very rewarding.I have bought a few of these over the years and always come back to them despite building a couple of my own nests. Why? Because they are well priced, do exactly what you need and are versatile and expandable.Construction is very easy. Use a folded piece of paper to load in the sand and do it in a sink or outside just be sure. I don't use the plastic insert that you stick stickers on, which make sit even easier and lets you use all the sand easily.Ants - THE KIT DOESN'T COME WITH ANTS. I always collect my own queen ants in the nuptial flight season. I store them in test tubes with some water soaked cotton wool and a small dab of honey. You then have to wait until the following spring before you'll even have a few ants to look at. I also attach a small reptile heating pad to one area of my nest to extend the active season of the nest. Ants without a queen might tunnel etc but you'll have a limited experience.More ants (brood boosting)... you can harvest additional cocoons from other an nests and place them in yours. The queen and the workers don't know the difference and will treat them as their own. Make sure you don't take too many and that they are the same species!Summary - with some time and love you'll have a thriving nest. This kit is great.

It has its pros and cons
I purchased this ant farm as a temporary solution as the ants I was caring for had began escaping their enclosure.Set up was simple enough although if you don't hold it all in place correctly throughout, the side attachments do like to pop off.Now this is where all hell broke loose. My ants were already in a larger container so transfer of the ants was a 1 by 1 process which.... took... hours, so I would definitely advise to purchase your ants in test tubes to make your life easier.Once all in place the ant farm is difficult to maintain actively. I added in some food to main compartment then scratched hell out of the clear plastic and ripped the woodland image using a disposable pipette trying to remove leftovers a few days later.Over all the quality is expected for the cost of the apparatus, it looks nice once the ants have started their colony and began burrowing. But it is not ideal for active maintenance... If you want to interact with the ant farm (which we have to for science projects) this farm is not ideal. But for an aesthetic ant farm that you don't need to interact with this is a great, cheap option.

7 year old son loves it, haven’t got a queen ant yet but put 6 worker ants in & its fasinating. Took about 3/4 days before they actually started to tunnel but great to see them picking up the little grains of sand & moving it around. Been told queens fly towards the end of July & better to get one without wings then you know she has mated ( they loose wings after mating) really pleased excellent buy.

World of Ants, great to watch
Ant world is as expected, full of information in the booklet provided and easy to set up. Maybe a little fiddly entering from the top, but once you have a queen there’s no real need to go in! Doesn’t come with Ants but plenty of websites selling ants, including one you only pay for postage!I enjoy watching the ants and they’re little trails and have combined several areas with tubes for them to roam about in
