Gatsby Moving Rubber Spiky Edge Hair wax is excellent!!
I have a pixie cut with short, short sides and long in front (5-6 inches), and shorter on the upper top (3-4 inches) of my hair so I can spike it up. The product is not a wax, nor "rubbery" - the texture is more like a really thick greek yogurt. It smells like lightly scented fruit shampoo, but once its on my hair the smell dissipates so it doesn't leave a lingering odor, which I loved. My first try I used 2 medium finger dabs starting from the roots to tips. I used one more application and it spikes my hair up great. I don't wash my hair everyday and really didn't need to with this product in my hair. It didn't flake off or leave any residues. It didn't feel sticky the day after like hairspray residue. Even after 2 days I could just fluff up my hair, retouch with a flat iron and it looked great. If I needed to I could just add more dabs to my hair to make it spikier. I hate using hairspray because of the smell and the way it feels the day after. I always wash my hair the day after using hairspray, but don't need to with Gatsby Moving Rubber. I was curious about this product because reviews were highly rated for asian hair. I have thick, asian hair, but my hair is normally wavy the longer it gets. I love that you can still run your fingers through your hair to play with it, and add more product and it won't make your head feel heavy or dirty. I live in the midwest (US) and we have wet springs, cold winters and humid summers, so I will add an update to see how this product holds up to those tough conditions. So far I really love it. It's better than anything I've tried at retail stores, and about equal to Aveda Control Paste without the high price, and you get more per ounce. Aveda would leave flakey residues, especially on portions where on the side of my hair is about 1" or shorter. Gatsby Moving Rubber didn't.

My preferred hair wax for stiff hair
This Gatsby Spiky Edge wax works impressively well on my stubbornly stiff hair that usually refuses to cooperate with anything short of industrial glue. The texture is soft and easy to work with, spreading smoothly without feeling like Iโm smearing frosting on my scalp. It gives a nice controlled shine โ not โoily fry cookโ shine, but just enough to make your hair look alive and intentional. The scent is a surprisingly pleasant blend between apple and lychee, giving off strong vibes of โI showered today,โ which is always a plus. Itโs not sticky or tacky once styled, and despite the solid hold, it washes out with zero drama at the end of the day โ no aggressive scrubbing or existential crises in the shower required. The volume it gives is impressive too, making my hair look thicker without clumping. Overall, this is my go-to when I want to look like I put effort into my hair without actually putting in effort. Highly recommended.

Best Hair Styling Product I've Ever Used!
The headline says it all. This is the best hair styling product I've ever used. I've used all kinds of hair styling products throughout my life. I have thick, coarse, wavy hair that prefers to do its own thing so I'm usually forced to keep it short to keep it manageable. Every once in a while, I'll grow my hair out a little and try to give it some style. My hair usually looks great when it's still wet but then looks not-so-great after it dries. I figured either I suck at styling hair or my hair is just not very stylable. Turns out that, despite trying so many different styling products, I still hadn't found the right one. Even though this product is called a wax, it actually has a very smooth, creamy consistency. It is a light pinkish-cream color and very fragrant. It has a kind of clean floral or berry scent, reminiscent of some women's shampoos. I personally like the scent but if you're averse to strong smelling products this may not be the one for you. The product thins out nicely when rubbed between your hands and a little goes a long way. It has a very strong hold without being hard, crunchy, or shiny. You can't easily run your fingers through your hair after the product has dried; it can get pretty sticky, but that's to be expected for a product with such high hold. About the only negative thing I can think of is it doesn't wash out of your hair easily with just water. This surprised me because it rinsed off my hands pretty easily. I definitely have to shampoo to get this stuff out. But given that it is the best hair styling product I've ever used, I'm more than happy with the tradeoff.

Not quite a "9/10" hold but otherwise a great product
My hair is 1-2 inches, extremely thick and I prefer the spiky look. Over the past year, I have been in search of the "perfect" hair creme/wax which provides the highest hold and a matte look. In short, there are lots of options that function very differently. To date, I have tried American Crew Fiber, D:fi D:sculpt, TIGI matte separation, Moving Rubber Spiky Edge, Moving Rubber Grunge Mat, Jonathan Dirt, Sticky Rice, TRENDStarter matte finishing wax and Eufora Hero. All of these options are priced in the same range (per oz) but each have a unique set of pros and cons. I'm still searching for the silver bullet (for my hair type and style). For Spiky Edge, here's the breakdown: What's the "actual" hold like? Very bad, which is surprising given that Moving Rubber marks this at a 9/10 hold. In contrast, Grunge Mat is far, far stronger than this product (which Moving Rubber ranks as a 10/10). There's apparently a huge different between the 9 to 10 on this scale. How easy is it to work into the hair? Very easy. This product has a thin, creamy texture that is very easy to spread into the hair. How natural does the hair feel throughout the day? Very unnatural. Because this product is not very strong, you will need a lot of product to achieve a hold. In turn, you will get a lot of crunchiness and the "wet look" - effectively defeating the whole matte theme of the product. Is the hold consistent? Partially. You will notice that the hold weakens throughout the day but you can counter by applying more product. I did notice that this particular product seems to lose it's hold much faster when you're exposed to moisture. How much do you need to get a decent hold? A lot. This product should only be used for people with very short hair (<1 inch). If you do have very short hair, most of the above criteria will not matter in which case it actually is a solid contender. Does it wash out easily? Yes. How does it smell? Fantastic and very unique. I would describe it as milky and floral. Please see my other reviews to compare against all of the above products. Overall, this is a great product. It's real life use, however, this product should only be for people with the shortest of hair (<1 inch). If you like this manufacturer and need more hold (for slightly longer hair), check out Grunge Mat. I would rate this 5 stars but, given I wouldn't call the "hold factor" a 9/10 (more like a 7/10), I'm docking by one star.

So glad I found this!
I absolutely love this hair wax! My hair is thick and I used to use gel on it. However, I could never get my hair to look how I wanted. I decided to give this stuff a try and I am very glad I did. I'm going to compare this to regular hair gel because that's what I used to use and hair gel seems very common (I'm basing this off of my experience with hair gel and this Gatsby hair wax. I'm not saying everyone has these problems with hair gel, I'm just trying to help those who do have similar problems). - Hair gel would never style my hair just right. I would put hair gel in my hair and try to spike it, and the spike would never turn out quite how I imagined it. Using this hair wax, I can get a perfect spike easily every time (assuming I use the wax correctly). - Hair gel never looked quite right in my hair. When I used hair gel, it would leave my hair looking hair, flaky, and shiny. This hair wax looks much better in my hair. It gives your hair a soft texture (it feels soft and looks it too), and it doesn't get flaky either. On top of that, it gives your hair a very natural appearance without the gloss. - Hair gel would take a long time to use. It would take me up to 15 minutes to use the gel. I would keep trying to get the perfect style but it would never look right. I took a long time trying to create the style and I would still come away feeling unsatisfied. With this hair wax, I can spike my hair in less than 2 minutes and be very happy with the look. Bottom line is, if you have thick hair, this hair wax will work wonders. It will allow you to easily style your hair and create the look you want, it will look great, and you can do it very quickly. Now before I finish this review, I would like to go over a few more things. First, some people say this stuff doesn't wash out easily. For me, that's not true. I can wash my hair like normal (only once) and my hair is product free and ready to be styled. This hair wax is easy to restyle. Some of you may be worried about the hold like I was. I didn't think it could hold well if you could just re-syle it. I thought that if it could be restyled easily, maybe it could be "restyled" on accident, say if there was some wind or something. Well, it does have a good hold. It's not just going to collapse of anything. However, if you want, you can work you hair into a different style in the middle of the day. Now, if someone tried to mess your hair up as a joke, they would be able to. However, you can always just restyle it back. Finally, I would like to mention a few problems you might have with this wax. The correct way to do apply this wax is to take a small amount, about a finger tip, and spread it over your hands until it is transparent. I found it tempting to not spread it well enough or to use to much product. DON'T DO THIS. It will make your hair look bad and will be hard to style. It makes you hair too stiff and makes it clump together. It will completely ruin the look. Make sure you use a small amount, and spread it evenly over your hands. Make sure the wax is transparent and there isn't any visible wax on your hands. If you apply this Gatsby hair wax properly, it will allow you to easily create an awesome style. Good luck!

Great for thick hair that needs stength to keep it in place.
By far the best hair product that I've ever used for my particular hair. Okay, a bit of back story, I have pretty long, really thick hair. Styling my hair has always been a serious problem that has been really hard to fix. I've gone through many products in the past, Paul Mitchell's dry wax, American Crew Fiber, and American Crew Pomade being the three biggest name ones. The problem with these other products has been that they simply can't keep my hair in place without using too much product. I decided to look around more for some less obvious brands and I stumbled about on Gatsby and after using it for around 3 months I don't want to use anything else. It keeps my hair perfectly in place with just a small application of product. It's able to be re-sculpted during the day if I want to change the style or in case there's some really strong wind that day. It's just been perfect. There's only two small cons that I can find with the product. The first is that it's pretty hard to get out of your hair, a really good shampoo + conditioning can get most of it out but you'll still notice it in your hair from time to time if you haven't reapplied product. Not much of a trouble for me, I'm fine with that, just a word of warning. The other product is that because it's a rather โyogurt-eyโ substance it's quite easy to get carried away and use too much, along with that train of thought the product does run out quite rapidly compared to strict dry waxes. However those two cons are really minor in consideration to how great a product this is, I use the pink bottle just because it's meant to be the strongest holding, I haven't tried the others but will one day. Really great product, low shine, pretty easy to hide in your hair. It looks really natural and great. Overall just a wonderful product.

awesome product for short hair
While my hair IS starting to thin, I still have more than enough to style it. Without any product in my hair, I just look flat out lame and a good 10 years older for some reason. I've used gel's in the past, but hate how they seem to goop up my hair and also make it hard as a rock, at least the brands I've tried. The best product prior to Gatsby's was Exclusive By Billy Jealousy Headlock Hair Molding Cream 57g/2oz ... while it worked good, there was a few drawbacks. For one it was SO thick (the cream/wax itself) that I had to put some in my palm and then add some water to make it manageable enough to spread through my entire head/hair. In addition, I think I accidently got some water in the container because after that, it was no longer usable. It literally turned rock solid in the jar and pretty much glued itself to the container. The other thing I didn't like is that it kinda left my hair kinda greasy. This is my first experience with Gatsby and I love it so far. First off, it smells great. It has a hint of apple smell, but like other said, not SO much that you smell fruity or like a girl lol. 2nd, I LOVE LOVE LOVE the consistency of the product itself... its very creamy & smooth. I also like how I didnt need a ton to spread all over my head. In addition, its not shiny nor rock hard once its set. I can move & style my hair throughout the day. I can even wet my hands and style it even more. I have a buddy who lives in Osaka Japan and swears by this brand (as well as most Japanese-based hair products). I can't say I blame him. I'll definitely be using this brand going forward, at least, while I still have some hair on my head.

Wanted straight, still dries curly
Overall Iโd say this is a good product but didnโt work the way I wanted it to. I wanted straighter, firmer hold but hair went back to being curly as it was before. Smell was decent, moisture good, just not the hair stiffness I wanted. Just a dry oil/alcohol-ish texture. Hair held for maybe 40 min but sprung right up to MORE curl. A female w long hair btw. I like to try different things. Itโs a good product for the price. Lot of nice ingredients.

Best product I've EVER used!!!!!
Best product I've EVER used !!!. Spent 3 weeks in America last year for our holiday. Only after returning home and viewing the photos did I realize my hair products I'd brought with me had stopped working as soon as we left the hotel's each day. It was 30 + degrees and this caused my hair to stick to my head. This year we returned to America but I'd done a bit of research on what would work well and hold my hair in its choppy style. After reading reviews for Moving Rubber I decided to try it and what a difference. My hair retained its style all day with no need for hairspray either. Another thing I love about it is how little is needed. A small blob, and I mean small, and away you go. Unfortunately, I left it at my cousins when packing so ordered another tub on our way home and that arrived the day after we did. Very pleased with this product and wish it had been around years ago. I highly recommend buying it, you won't be disappointed.

As someone with fine hair and a short wispy hairstyle, I could not function without my Gatsby! It's light but holds my hair style all day without too much stickiness. Yoy dont need a lot so it lasts quite a while and it washes out nicely. Definitely my favorite hair product!
